It's an alright team very happy for Loughney though good to see a Connacht lad getting a senior cap. That said I do have some reservations. For a start I wouldn't have either Zebo or O'Mahony in the squad let alone on the first XV. Gilroy scored 2 tries against the BaaBaa's surely he should have got it on form? Zebo on the other hand managed to tackle one of his own players in the same game letting the Baabaa's score a try. The other is O'Mahony who I just don't rate that highly. Would rather have McLaughlin there in a heartbeat. Firstly he's give us another option in the line-out and secondly himself and SOB and Heaslip know each other inside out which makes more sense to me. O'Mahony also has a temper and if NZ target him for sledging he's liable to do something dumb. Enough has been said about the Earls at 12 thing for me not to comment.

Congrats to Ronan. He has had an unreal year when you think about it - fair play to him. Really sound fella too. Got chatting to him after the Toulouse game, and he stood with us having the craic and telling us all about the game for a good 15 minutes.

I think people could be right about the centres - 13 is BOD's number, but he may well spend more time playing 12. Either way, having him there is massive because the defense seems to struggle when he's not in the team.

Considering the season Munster have had, it does seem like a lot of Munster players, but when I look at the team in full, I'm happy enough. Having said that, if the all blacks show up, we'll be hammered. Fingers crossed for a miracle. Weather may well play a big part.

well done to locks.

should be Earls at 11, Ferg at 12 and Zebo at 14.

picking murray ahead of reddan is a great move as aaron smith is playing for new zealand.
murray 6ft 1'' vs smith 5ft 7''

BOD will play 12, Earls 13, similar to 2006(?) when D'Arcy wore 12 but played outside (& won player of the tournament)

Great to see Rollox get his chance, really looking forward to seeing him come on.

First, delighted for Ronan. Congrats.

Here we are giving out about Conservative Kidney and then he does this!!!!!

Front row grand, well as regards only options we have. Happy with the 2nd row choice. And fine with the back row.

Still think Reddan better to start as Sexton starting.

Earls at 12! Mmmmmmmm interesting??? I don't get this. Assume BOD will move into the 12 channel.

Kearney and McFadden fine too.

Now Zebo. I still think he should not even be on the tour.

Leinster 7 players, Munster 5. Enough said.

Earls at 12?

Zebo is starting?

Wow I'd say the -17 the bookies have NZ is starting to look really attractive.

Ireland team to play New Zealand: Rob Kearney; Fergus McFadden, Brian O'Driscoll (Captain), Keith Earls, Simon Zebo; Jonathan Sexton, Conor Murray; Cian Healy, Rory Best, Declan Fitzpatrick; Dan Tuohy, Donnacha Ryan; Peter O'Mahony, Sean O'Brien, Jamie Heaslip.

Replacements: Sean Cronin, Ronan Loughney, Donncha O'Callaghan, Kevin McLaughlin, Eoin Reddan, Ronan O'Gara, Darren Cave

Doesn't fill me with optimism, Loughney on the bench as he can play both sides of the scrum, no McCarthy or Wilko. Going to need a huge performance to keep this being a contest.

Good point Rossie.

Has anyone checked on Marcus Horan? Is he alright? I'd imagine after the Irish squad was called and him not been in it with all those injuries to props he must be in deep shock. I mean he's a prop and he plays for Munster what else does he need to do? Not only that but he's ancient and isn't a first teamer like Donnacha O'Callaghan. Very strange.

Basically as many Munstermen as he can possibly squeeze into the 22.

Very accurate I think you've nailed it. The only change might be Ross if he's fit.

Now that the squad has been finalised (O'Connell out), anyone care to speculate on the team and bench for the first test? Any Connacht involvement? I fear the scrum is going to struggle big time, but I'm still hopeful our lads, especially Macca will make an impact.

congrats to the boys on their selection. i read a match report which said that brett struggled in scrum against afoa but did well in loose. Ronan did v well in scrum firstly at th when replacing fitspatrick and then fared much better than brett at lh when brett went off and fitz had to come back on. prob finally convinced kidney of his value with this performance.

Wont be surprised if he is on bench for test matches.

IrishRugby.ie wrote: Remaining Names For Tour Squad Confirmed

The remaining places in the Ireland squad for the summer tour to New Zealand have been confirmed. Several spots were left unfilled as players were given further time to prove their fitness in Tuesday's game against the Barbarians.

Chris Henry and Brett Wilkinson both came through the Barbarians clash after recent injury concerns and will take their places among the forwards.

They are joined by Mike McCarthy, who will travel to New Zealand as precautionary cover for Paul O'Connell who is continuing his recovery from a knee injury.

O'Connell is not included in the listed squad at present. A final decision on his participation in the tour will be made on Friday.

There are also two further uncapped players making the trip to the home of the World champions with scrum half Paul Marshall named in the squad along with prop Ronan Loughney, who will be providing further cover for the front row including Mike Ross who is currently recovering from a hamstring strain.

The Ireland management and players will depart from London for New Zealand on Thursday morning.

Declan Kidney's men will face the All Blacks in the first Test at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday week - June 9.

Rugby League Park in Christchurch and Hamilton's Waikato Stadium are the venues for the two other Tests on Saturday, June 16 and Saturday, June 23 respectively.

All three Tests will kick off at 7.35pm local time/8.35am Irish time. Sky Sports will have live TV coverage of the games, while they will also be broadcast live on RTÉ Radio 1.
