So is O Callaghan, Darcy and ROG and they've been horribly out of form for 2 seasons

You're joking surely! Our only regular attacking threat all year...missed one game through injury. I'm sure Eric is only picking him out of necessity!! May not be Richie Mc Caw defensively but made some super tackles this year and is only learning his trade (21 in Feb)

I think Macca is unlucky not to make it but i guess it is a massively tight call for his spot with Ryan and Tuohy.

You'd have to say Duffy will be off to NZ with Jones being so unlucky with injury again.

The one omission I can't understand who is now actually a Munster player thinking about it is James Downey. He has being playing out of his skin the last couple of years for Saints and last week was one of the best players on the pitch despite Northampton getting turned over by Quins in the league semi.

OK so Wilks is out injured and TOH hasn't been chosen that I can live with. Not having Duffy there to me doesn't make sense. I'm really beginning to believe that Kidney has a set against him. He's the Connacht Captain for god's sake and has had a great season. Oh DK...

Don't understand why they don't have Macca either. We all know about the dismissal yesterday how hard is it for them to add his name to a sheet? I also think adding Fitzpatrick and Sherry shows how shallow our choices are in the front row. Yes Fitzpatrick had a good outing against Glasgow but he's played literally 3/4 games all season and Sherry to me is nowhere near the finished product yet, I would have brought Flavin or Brady instead. Would have also given Ferris another week to heal and given Roger Wilson a chance especially since he's returning to Ulster.

Would it be fair to assume that the backs A.N.Other will be Jones if his leg is ok and Duffy if it isn't, and that whomever eventually plays in the Barbarians game will be Keraney's backup on tour?

Likewise for the forwards, there are 2 THs named - Loughney & Fitzpatrick - and one LH, Court, so when you add in Healy and Ross that still leaves room for one more LH, which would then be either Wilko if fit or McAllister otherwise?

I see from Twitter that O'Halloran is on holiday in the States, maybe he was told in advance. He did play a huge amount of rugby (26 minutes plus one game shy of the full Pro12, 21 minutes off in the H-Cup) in what was his first prolonged exposure at this level.

To be fair there are some very good wingers in there. Gilroy is ahead of TOH and deservedly so, while Zebo and TOH is a toss up. Don't think you can complain that Zebo doesnt deserve to be there either. Both just as good as each other in my opinion.

Squad announced for the Barbarians, congrats to Mul & Rollox, but can't help but wonder what TOH and Duffy needed to do to get named.

There are two AN Others in the squad, so maybe Duffy will get picked, there are no specialist fulbacks named.

Similarly for the space in the forwards, Macca might be called up now that he has been cleared, although Dan Tuohy has been getting better and better all season and may have knocked him out.

Peter O'Mahony (Cork Constitution-Munster)
Donnacha Ryan (Shannon-Munster)
Mike Sherry (Garryowen-Munster)*
Dan Tuohy (Ballymena-Ulster)
A.N.Other

Phew! A rare case of justice prevailing.

A bit of faith has been restored now after the Afoa debacle.

I was really worried he's previous would be the excuse they used to throw the book at him, but thankfully common sense has won the day.

Hope you enjoy NZ Macca!

Fair dues to Tom Ryder, obviously had a big part to play in clearing Mike. Big respect to him...

RaboDirectPro12 wrote: Disciplinary Update
For immediate release: Monday 14th May 2012

Issued on behalf of RaboDirect PRO12

At a disciplinary hearing today in Cardiff, Mike McCarthy, Connacht lock forward, was cleared of a citing complaint of making contact with the eye or eye area of Glasgow Warriors lock forward, Tom Ryder, in the RaboDirect PRO12 match on 5 May 2012.

The citing complaint was for an infringement of law 10.4(m): acts contrary to good sportsmanship. The independent RaboDirect PRO12 disciplinary committee, comprising Robert Williams (chairman), Simon Thomas and Aurwel Morgan (all Wales), heard evidence and submissions from Mike McCarthy and his legal representative, as well as from the RaboDirect PRO12 Disciplinary Officer.

The disciplinary committee found on the evidence available, and in particular in light of Mike McCarthy's explanation of what happened in the incident, together with a statement from Tom Ryder, that there had been no contact with the eye or eye area, and that accordingly the citing complaint was not upheld. While the disciplinary committee found that there had been contact with an area in close proximity to the eye, it applied a test from previous cases as to the meaning of 'eye area' and found that Mike McCarthy had not made contact with the 'eye area'. Mike McCarthy is therefore free to play.

Mr McCarthy and the Disciplinary Officer each has the right of appeal.

Note: in the ERC appeal case involving Alan Quinlan in May 2009, the tribunal stated that 'contact by a player with an opposition player's 'eye area' would occur in respect of "any area of the face in close proximity to the eye, where contact would cause a victim to fear for the safety of his eye or where there is substantial risk that there could be contact with the eye"'.

For further information contact Jon Davis, Disciplinary Officer, +44 7711 130 251.
