I think I'd knock every stand and start from scratch if possible with a retractable roof

More announcements this week www.chroniclelive.co.uk/business/busines...r-expansion-13711079 which include players training areas beneath the stands. This is something Saracens do in their main stand where the bar area converts into a running track during the week.
Not sure on what has been spent at Kingston Park over the years but I wouldn't have thought they have broke the bank with any of it.

1. a person who dreams.
2. a person who lives in a world of fantasy; one who is impractical and unrealistic.
3. a person whose ideas or projects are considered audacious or highly speculative; visionary.
I would tend towards # 2 above

Wasn't aware of that. Its a real shame. It would have been a great opportunity. You would have to think that Willie Ruane would have done his best to make that happen.Bazzo wrote: The stadiums for the RWC bid have already been decided and they've gone for Pearse Stadium rather than redevelop the sportsground. Can't see them going back on that now unfortunately.

Yea very true, it can't exactly be plonked down anywhere. I seen however that one of the 3 options was a new ' green-field' site at the new docks. I'm not sure of the exact scale/size of that project or what exactly is planned, but maybe potentially there!! Its within walking distance of town etc, so perfect for all sporting events, concerts, city event location alike.
Could you imagine the atmosphere in a stadium like that, in out of the grubby wild winter weather, no wind no rain....good running rugby in dry conditions. It would attract more players to the club, and provide for greater away fans visiting, i also think that all goes for galway utd.
Personally i'm a big sports fan, I'd watch anything and never mind paying into a sports stadium/ground, but the one thing that can dictate whether i go or not is the weather, i cannot bear standing out in the driving wind and rain (trying to) watch a game that's turned to nothing more than a slug fest because of the weather , as I said, pipe dreams but the RWC should be a catalyst to consider and 'price' such a venture.

Dunedin noticed that there was a need to bring the game indoors and the rugby world cup in NZ was their chance to push for such a stadium to be built. The stadium holds just shy of 31,000 for rugby/soccer with 36,000 for concerts. Obviously the same capacity wouldn't be needed for Galway but maybe circa 20,000 with further potential down the road (way way down). Even a stadium like Fargodome in Dakota, which holds 19,000 is unbelievable and the atmosphere is amazing, i was there a few years back. Perhaps share it with Galway Utd!
Maybe its real pie in the sky stuff, but why not try. Galway is growing..Fast, at some stage the population in the city itself will approach the 100,000 mark, with the population of surrounding towns in galway and neighbouring counties also growing, maybe now is the time to aim for the stars, and with the current WC bid (if successful) surely its a chance to seek additional funding to attempt get it across the line. Just my humble opinion.
