Anyone know what is going on with Galway Utd? Are the new investors (Saudis) planning on investing in a new stadium? Ground share?

Pat's get about 1200, they'll no more build this stadium than I'll grow a third leg. Kite flying exercise.

St Pats looking at building a new stadium that could be similar to what would suit us.

I saw that yesterday, and started questioning, how a LOI team can build a stadium like that, and we can't.
I dont have any facts, but I imagine crowds are pretty similar, and that we charge more. We also should have funding from the IRFU, and not have to pay Dublin prices.
Very disappointing to see other teams be able to do something like this, and we can't.

I'd love to hear an update from Willie about where we are with regards to a new/updated stadium. Surely they've done all their research on the survey feedback

I don't have the numbers but I'd imagine our average attendance is way above St Pats.

Also, it's hard to see the IRFU touching any stadium funding with a barge pole after how it went last time.

The St. Pat's stadium is pie in the sky. They don't own the land (Dublin city council do), and funding would be in part dependent on their existing stadium being rezoned for housing, despite it being vulnerable to flooding from the Camac river. Plus the mooted capacity is almost 10 times their average attendance this season.

Sad thing for me is that this topic started 6 years ago and the progress , in real terms, appears to be absolutely minimal.

Basically, its the covered stand on the main side. PP had been granted for 5 years (2013 to 2018). They now need to look for new PP. They have, it's been granted. Nothing new, but nothing being taken away either!

Yep, cursory look at the application. It's new permission for a temporary covered stand only usable on Connacht match days for a period of five years..

Galway Bay FM wrote: "Facilities at The Sportsground in the city are soon to be improved.

Connacht Branch of the IRFU has been granted planning permission for a covered seated stand and signage at the grounds at College Road.

The development is subject to 4 planning conditions.

One condition is that the new stand must only be used on match days for Connacht Senior Rugby team."

Sounds suspiciously like this one, which is basically permission for the current GT stand for 5 years:

I can only hope that there is some truth to this. It's so badly needed. A permanent, covered seating stand will be very busy.

The bit cached on the search results says:
"Galway Bay fm newsroom: Facilities at The Sportsground in the city are soon to be improved. I assume the bit after the ellipsis says "... stand features a free seat for Pinky".

Page not found. What did it say? Something about a new stand being approved in a sportsground in some city?
