A strange weekend, disappointing not to get anything from Ulster, Munster should have drawn with Leinster, but then Scarlets go and implode.
Should we beat Munster and Triviso, and Ulster beat Leinster, we could go into the final weekend with something like this.
Connacht 71
Leinster 68
Glasgow 67
Scarlets 66
Ulster 65
Or Glasgow beat Scarlets and we end up with
Connacht 71
Glasgow 70
Leinster 68
Ulster 65
Scarlets 62
Last day fixtures:
Connacht Rugby v Glasgow Warriors
Edinburgh Rugby v Cardiff Blues
Leinster Rugby v Benetton Treviso
Munster Rugby v Scarlets
Ospreys v Ulster
Zebre Rugby v Newport Gwe
Leinster will win, they go to 73
I cannot call the rest of the last day, but it looks like we will need to win all 3 to get a home semi.

But our schedule was awful starting December compared to our opponents.
Before the Scarlets, Dragons and Embra upsets, I was with good reasons deeply convinced we were not favourite yet to qualify
Even after those rounds it was only 70% likely
Beating Ospreys and Leinster at home, combined to other results made it 95% sure
But now guys it's a done deal, even if Cardiff in-form players take 15 points out of 15 and us 0, they're behind us (no BP for them today, less games won than Connacht in the end whatever happens).
So WE ARE IN fu**** Champions Cup !!!!!! BRILLANT !!!!! :silly: :woohoo:
PS : in addition Blues win in parc y Scarlets increased a lot our chances for semi final. Wow
Side note London Irish very likely to be relegated now after another Majestic defeat. Time to purchase Jerry Sexton and Fergus Mulchrone on low money

A try bonus point win tonight sees us safely home
I think this is true. I've been running through permutations to see if both Scottish teams can finish above us if we got a bonus point win tonight and I don't think it's possible.
Do that tonight and we can't be overtaken by Edinburgh no matter if the get 5 from every game left. Similarly, Cardiff are too far away for both Welsh sides to overtake us.
We could finish 5th on points difference ifwe win with BP tonight and then tank til the end of the season.

Well if you are going to be pedantic about it then that is incorrect.pinky wrote: All very true but the article is about what is required for Connacht to be mathematically guaranteed to qualify, which is a few weeks away yet.
The article is about what could go wrong.
Mathematically, Connacht can qualify for the Champions Cup by the end of the day tomorrow.

Connacht won't officially qualify this weekend unless they win.
Edinburgh will surely beat Zebre so an LBP would put Connacht 13 ahead with 3 to play.
And what's this Top 6 business? He obviously doesn't read my work.
EDIT: In fact, even beating Ulster wouldn't be enough to do it. If Edinburgh get 5 points they'd still be "only" 15 behind so could still pull off some kind of miracle.
It's unlikely that Connacht can win all their remaining games but it's also unlikely that Edinburgh or Cardiff will either.
For example, Connacht should get a bonus point this evening. Also, they will be really fired up for the Munster game. They should also get 4 against Treviso.
Cardiff are playing Scarlets this weekend at Scarlets. Not easy. Also the Ospreys at the end of the month.
Edinburgh have to play Leinster in Dublin in 2 weeks. Also Munster in Limerick at the end of the month.
And to put icing on the cake, Edinburgh play Cardiff in the last round. Probably winner takes all.
Time to face reality I think......

Sure why would anyone need to go to Edinburgh? On the 28th May especially. And be there around 17.30. Silly notions.:woohoo: :woohoo:Shelflife wrote: Just to let people know that Flybe have just started flights from Knock to Edinburgh.

You'd expect this from Pundit Arena but Joe are usually slightly more numerate.

Anyone know what the story is? Is Champion's Cup qualification / seeding its own reward?

There is absolutely no reason why we can't win all our remaining games or most of them.
Injuries at 10 are probably the biggest concern, but SOL was great when he came on on Saturday.
Exciting times to be a Connacht fan.
Delighted for the likes of Jimmy Duffy and Tim Alnutt, etc who have been around for a long time and seen it all.
