I've said the kicking abilities would be a plus, as Ronaldson/carty aren't totally reliable.. When our new outhalf goes off, Porter will take the tee

Got some feedback from the Ulster boys about Porter.

He is a talented 9 but never got a look in. He is / was also a top notch goal kicker. Given that Mr Parks is done, he'd be a decent thought but of course he won't get a look in ahead of Marmion unless Marmion gets called up to Ireland which is a likely event. He's a pretty good player in the Reddan mould.

Looks like he could be a good asset for us. With our kicking ratio being as dire as it is having a 9 who can kick could be a big help. Apparently he kicks for Queens so is in practice as well.

Great news. Hopefully with the new CEO announcement this week it will allow us to tie up the 10 and centre/utility too.

Very good confirmation, especially if he's a kicker

Threw the info up about Ian Porter on the Ulster site and apparently we are in talks with him at a developed stage. Hasn't signed yet though but looks to be winging his way here.

Could be a useful signing. Played against us earlier in the season but don't know a huge amount about him. He did take a year or two out of the pro game I know. He's going nowhere fast at Ulster and at almost 26 years of age needs to make it somewhere at this stage. He'll probably be an improvement on Paul O'Donohue or Frank Murphy and would be decent cover in the event of Marmion getting more international call ups.

From the Irish TImes today

Connacht are in the market for at least two midfield backs following the premature departure of Samoan international James So’oialo, Kyle Tonetti’s enforced retirement and Eoin Griffin signing a contract with London Irish.

So we're after two backs then. Good to know.

Hope You're right on the long term perspective, but money won't help

I fairness, to put things in perspective, Humphries is going back to Ulster, so he won't be a LI player next year, Sherrif is not a LI player (and probably won't be). Griffin is leaving as he sees Robbie playing 13 more over the next few years and the opportunity to play is better for him. Sheridan was let go by Leinster and they picked him up from Rotherham as a complete nobody, he has taken his chance at LI and good luck to him.

We are not the 5th province.......... they are.

Sheriff is joining London Irish.
Roux and Denton are rumoured to be leaving.
Ben Marshall has played mostly A rugby this year at lock. If both those left you would anticipate a signing or two and Marshall to get a real chance of stepping up too.

I think that's one of the reasons my Roux is on the way out. Marshall and Sheriff and maybe another NIQ second row for next year. There's rumours around Denton to but I doubt they'd let him leave with Cullen retiring. Roux is still very young and has a great attitude. I wouldn't give up on him any time soon and I think we'd be lucky to have him.

I think he's been painfully average for Leinster and Tom Denton has been ahead of him for most of the season from what I can see. I've said it before but I wonder whatever happened Ben Marshall, only two sub appearances this season afaik even though Leinster have had multiple second row injuries and Toner away with Ireland. Maybe they have him bulking up but if not he should look to leave soon.

Apparently there are rumours of Quinn Roux leaving Leinster with Eoin Sheriff coming in to replace him. He wouldn't be a bad signing for us if Clarke has to retire.
