+1. This is exactly what we need - players who could easily move elsewhere deciding to stay put. Fair play lads!

Connacht Rugby is delighted to announce contract extensions for senior players Ronan Loughney and Brett Wilkinson. The province has strengthened its long term front row options with the news that Loughney and Wilkinson have both committed to the club until 2015.
Galway born Ronan Loughney put pen to paper earlier this week and singed a two year extended contract with his native province.
28 year old Loughney earned his first cap for Connacht in 2005 and has played a part in some of the biggest games in the clubs history, including the 2010 Amlin Challenge Cup semi-final against Toulon and the historic first win in the Heineken Cup this season against Harlequins.
Last March, Loughney became one of the youngest members in the clubs history to reach the milestone of 100 caps for Connacht.
As just reward for his consistently impressive performances for Connacht, he was called into the Ireland squad during the 2012 summer tour to New Zealand and earned his first international cap in the opening test.
The tighthead prop has been a predominant fixture this season, appearing in six out of nine games and scoring a second half try in Connacht’s 34-6 victory over Leinster last September.
Ronan said “I’m thrilled to have officially committed to Connacht for another two years. There’s nothing better than playing for your province and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. As a club, we’re achieving more and more each year and there’s a real ambition amongst everyone to push on to the next level. I’m delighted to be a part of that upward curve.”
Another of Connacht’s most senior players, Brett Wilkinson, has also signed a contract extension that will see the loosehead prop stay at The Sportsground until the end of the 2015 season. Wilkinson joined Connacht in 2006 from the University of Cape Town, after turning down the chance of Currie Cup rugby with Western Province.
Hailing from Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, Brett began playing rugby, from the age of 8. It was his performances for his school which led to him being singled out for a scholarship to the University of Cape Town.
Wilkinson has made a huge impact at the Sportsground since his arrival nearly six years ago with his powerful scrummaging and excellent ball-carrying skills. The Irish qualified prop has featured in six of Connacht’s nine games this season and is set to earn his 150th cap for the province on his next outing.
Wilkinson said “Connacht has been my home for the last six years and I’m delighted to have re-signed for another two. It’s a very exciting time for Connacht Rugby with the province competing in the Heineken Cup, Rabo and B&I Cup this season. There’s huge work being done both on and off the field and I’m really looking forward to contributing to that for at least another two years”
Commenting on the contract extensions, CEO, Tom Sears, said: “Both Ronan and Brett contribute enormously to the Connacht squad and I’m very pleased that they will continue to do so. Their signings are a great boost to the club as we continue our endeavours to build the strongest squad possible to compete in the Heineken Cup, RaboDirect PRO12 and British & Irish Cup”

With the province competing in the Heineken Cup, RaboDirect PRO12 and British & Irish Cup competitions this season, there is a big demand to bolster the squad and Manager Nigel Carolan has been busy extending his Academy to eighteen players.
Adding to the extensive expansion both on and off the field, all four players join Connacht on Academy contracts.
19-year-old Darragh Leader earned his first competitive start for the province last week against defending league champions Ospreys. The same week that Leader was officially signed to the Academy, he was selected by Eric Elwood to line out as full back against the Welsh side. Leader had impressed at Dubarry Park when he came off the bench with the Connacht Eagles against Newcastle Falcons in the British & Irish Cup. Darragh is younger brother to Tadhg Leader, who is currently in his second year of the Academy. He attended St. Joseph’s College, Galway and plays with Galwegians. The young Leader has represented Ireland at U19 level and is currently with the Ireland U20 squad.
Another recruit to the backs is 20-year-old Steve Macauley, who has appeared with the Eagles this season in both B&I Cup fixtures. Macauley was predominantly a fullback at underage level, but has played plenty of rugby on the wing too. A standout player in the 2010 Leinster Schools Cup for Clongowes Wood College, Macauley opted to take up an Academy offer from Leicester Tigers at the start of the 2010/11 season, before moving to the Irish province this season. The Young Munster player has represented Ireland at U18 Schools level.
Scrum half Marcus Walsh played with the Connacht U20s last season before being contracted to the Connacht Academy. The former Blackrock College schoolboy has been a predominant fixture in all Connacht Eagles games this season and has also represented Ireland at U18 Schools level.
Up front, 20-year-old Peter Reilly joins the Academy outfit as Tighthead Prop. The 6ft, 113kg front rower is a former pupil of Castleknock College. Reilly was part of the U20 squad that recorded a highest ever 5th place in the 2012 IRB Junior World Championship last summer.
Connacht Rugby are delighted to be able to provide genuine rugby experience to emerging, Irish-qualified talent and these signings are the latest additions to that contingent.
Academy Manager Nigel Carolan is very pleased with the latest recruits: “I’m delighted to be able to officially integrate the four lads. Their hard work over the last six months has really paid off and they are fantastic additions to the Academy set up.”

I'd say he will alright, his fitness will determine for how long. I'd be very surprised if as long as he isn't carrying an injury that he isn't involved right from the off...
Very odd that nothing could have been sorted for a local pre-season fixture. I suppose though opposing teams have to want to come though, sorta has to fit into their schedules...
