My understanding is Berch was already picking the team, so is it really a promotion? No mention of who the new head coach is.

hence Muls is more right
Oh, I believe Mul. And I believe Pat when he says that discussions were ongoing right up until the end of January. And I believe Robbie when he said he hadn't made a decision, right up to the end of January.
Quite clearly that's "why there was so much discussion about it".
So Thornley took it upon himself to make an announcement on Robbie's behalf. I've a fair idea where he was getting his information.
I'd say he bought himself a few Leinster exclusives with that one.

Robbie is a Connacht player until the end of June !
Courage is knowing what lies on the other side and still opening the door.

John Muldoon:
"I know from speaking to him that it was a very difficult decision throughout the year. I think he said three times that 'I'm going to make my decision at the end of the World Cup', 'I'm going to make my decision by November', and ultimately he didn't make the decision until near the end of January.
Which makes Gerry Thornley's statement on the 26th of November last all the stranger:
They're definitely getting Henshaw. It's 99 percent likely and it has been for a year now. I don't understand why there's so much discussion about it. I'm sure that working with Jonny Sexton, Brian O'Driscoll and so forth in the Irish camp has only made him more determined to go and join Leinster. They could do with a 12 I think.
He'll definitely end up at Leinster and he's preparing the ground for it.
There's a danger of it becoming almost Raheem Sterling-esque in terms of the discussions.

Mils scores try with first touch in the States. Don't know why he didn't have a number on his back?
Also the interviewer's remark about Beckham was a bit hopeful to say the least!
