We don't need an NIQ lock Connachta despite all your references to same.

Conroy listed as "Connacht" is a good sign he will integrate the squad.
So Jordan winger, then Brennan mostly centre back-up, no need for a NIQ there, and we can sign NIQs elsewhere, one to play lock, one to play LH (if Coulson doesn't come over),

Connor Murray's box kicking means that normally the Irish 10 doesn't kick so much, but the usual exit strategy from the 22 is a kick (which is more where I was thinking run after the kick and attempt to win it back), and there was an extended period where Ireland kicked the ball after 3-4 rucks if no-one made a break, so I don't think Joe is anti-kicking.
Carbery is talented but young and inexperienced, he's still being set up as the next big thing though and a well executed chip gets your teammates past the defensive wall, with a head start to the try line, so I can see what Carbery was trying for, just needed better execution. He's not likely to get many chances to impress at 10, Sexton's likely to start all Leinster's high profile games so maybe he was trying to show a skill we don't see much in Ireland to set himself apart, or he wants to/feels pressure to live up to the media expectations.

Was somewhat surprised by Carbery. Ok, he didn't have a great night which happens. But I couldn't understand all this chip kicking from everywhere. It certainly would not be the style of play Joe would promote as a norm. Which made it a bit bizarre to watch. Not only would our provinces not do this usually it is even less usual at an international level.

Interview with O'Halloran. Not much in it but what I thought was interesting was that he says the work ons given to him by Schmidt were holding on to the ball in contact (fair enough) and his "breakdown work".

No denying that Schmidt is a great coach but I'll never understand what his obsession with his back 3 hitting rucks is, it should be far and away the least important part of their game. And he's pernickety enough about things like that to keep great players like O'Halloran out of the side because of it.

Keatley would go ahead of Carty surely?
