I think it makes sense. After ROG's performance last weekend it wouldn't be a shock to hear Kidney sees him as a 20 minute performer rather than the next in line for the 10 shirt.

We've done it before with Parks & Jarvis on the bench, and when Parks was injured Miah started over Jarvis.

Not sure how it's back pedalling, everyone assumed he'd go for ROG and were up in arms that after the weekend at the thought after ROG had a poor game for Munster.

But Kidney never actually said that was going to happen.

I just meant that at the start of the 6Ns ROG was Kidney's nr 2 outhalf now ROG has been demoted to nr 3 it feels like Kidney has backtracked. I could understand if he made this decision at the start of the championship but for me as things stand today there are more reasons not to select PJ than there are for not selecting ROG to start the game.

No it looks like Marshall which will be interesting. Conor George's article in the Indo was apparently him in near hysterics about the decision. Will be interesting to see who makes the bench this week against Scotland.

If it's true about Jackson at 10, maybe he'll start McFadden in the centre in case Paddy has a wobble with his place kicking?

Fair Play to Kidney for making the call. Rog has been off form for a good while now and was very poor in his cameo against England and didnt look great last week.
Rog has been great for Munster and Ireland but his just not up to it anymore.
Time waits for no man
Im excited about the weekend now as opposed to fear of watching Rog play. #
So what the young lads might make a few mistakes but they will also do some great things hopefully.

For me it just seems to confirm that rog is there to make up the numbers/because he has a central contract. Jackson has had minimal contact with the squad. I think scotland will be excited for their chances.

this is all over the net now. game was in danger of being all about rog and kidney so if true a good decision from that perspective. i didnt think he wud go this way because of goalkicking and there will be a lot of pressure on jackson esp on goalkicking.
the team that appears to have been leaked is-
kearney, gilroy, bod, marshall, earls, jackson, murray, heaslip, sob, pom, ryan, doc, ross, best and court.

Well then according to Brendan Fanning on Twitter (he was the first to break Elwood departure) has just tweeted this

Brendan Fanning ‏@BrendanFanning
Paddy Jackson in line for start v Scots - Rog on bench. Kidney has just made the biggest call of his coaching career

afaik mcfadden started on the wing for leinster on saturday. if he was in contention for 12 he would have started there imo. Marshall did.

Like Marshall to but I'd have him on the bench. McFadden wins it for me in that he has a kicking game as well as him and BOD knowing each other well. Unfortunately I think Earls is going to be put at 13 and BOD at 12

It's a fair call, Marshall was in the Ireland XV against Fiji and had a great game, in all honesty McSharry was in the Ireland squad due to Marshall's recent injury. He was always going to be ahead of him on the list.

I think McFadden should start at 12 he's away better centre than Earls and it leaves BOD at 13 playing next to a guy he trains with at provincial level. It also leaves Earls in his best position Wing!

I also think Kidney should have a word with ROG and tell him that Kearney will kick the ball up the line on certain occasions etc.
