I would love to hear a good, detailed interview with Willie Ruane on the future vision for Connacht.

He has been quiet, working away in the shadows, but it would be good to hear a bit on the long terms plans for the province.

Yes, it's important that CR and Wille has a clear vision about the ground and what is wanted, when and how much it will cost.

Looks like they've been listening to ye:

I don't think the sportsground is suitable at all.

Even if the dogs were to move, the whole place would need to be flattened and started from scratch. I just can't ever see that happening, so anything developed there will always be a compromise onto what is already there. And what is already there, is not fit for purpose in any way.

It wasn't fit for purpose 20 years ago, never mind today.

This article is proof that it's easier to get elected to Galway City Council than it is to get a ticket for a Pro12 semi-final.

The Sportsground is ideal for so many reasons but as you said the dogs will hinder any developments. The fact that a councillor is saying to put it in the docks (which in my opinion would be the best option after the SG) means that it is being spoken about at least by the council. Has to be municipal though.

I think any noise about a new stadium project for Connacht, should be welcomed.

I do think given the size of Galway as the biggest population centre for the province, a municipal stadium to be inclusive of other sports would be best. It fits in with what Connacht is all about.

I just don't see the dogs situation ever being resolved, so the sportsground will always be compromised as a result.

A new site is needed sadly.

There are a few things I get passionate about. Connacht, Mayo to name two.
But one thing I am more passionate about than anything else is getting rid of that ass of a sport they call Greyhound racing.
I'd be all for kicking them out of the country altogether.

RANT OVER.

But they get far more government money than we do

Cllr. Crowe is Fianna Fail. Bord na gCon and the vast majority of doggy people country wide are Fianna Fail. In fairness to Cllr. Crowe, unless he's determined to become Ex-Cllr. Crowe, he can hardly call for them to be moved.

I don't know why we don't see anyone suggest moving the Dogs.
Get rid of them, but them out with Gov money, send them to Terryland, and have a shared stadium for rugby/soccer at the Sportsground with Connacht & Galway Utd.
The stadium would get year round use which would be of great benefit to all.

Though I don't think I agree with his Champions Cup games in Pearse Stadium.

So he's asking the GAA Central Council to do something they're not legally entitled to do (only a conference vote could make non-Croke Park stadia available outside of RWC use) with a stadium we can't use at night anyway while the council build a stadium that may not meet our needs with imaginary funding on a site that is, and will probably always be, several metres beneath Galway Bay.

We shall call it the OllieBowl.

Bertie must be dead proud of him.

Pearse Stadium is way too big.
I'd hate to see a game down there.
Also, as bad as conditions can be in the Sportsground, Salthill is much worse in the Winter.
I used to work in Salthill throughout college, and the winds you see down there in November/December/January are on another level, and Pearse stadium is quite open to the conditions.
