Just checking you are all awake. In the absence of any transfer news I decided to try and give a few of ye a fright. Unfortunately it didn't work but it was worth a try. In reality he'd be 34 at this stage but didn't think anyone would buy us signing a 34 year old. Hopefully the days of signings these type of players are behind us.

my last comment is from irfu in 2004 when we signed Pieter Myburgh (played 8league games) who replaced mccarthy when he went to NEWCASTLE

its nearly word for word to the comment borders wrote apart from he's now younger then he should and instead of newcastle borders has leinster.

my guess is either borders is messing, or someone has messed with him and he fell for it.
if you compare mine, (from irfu 2004) and borders, you can notice the things that are changed.

I am confused, there are two pieter myburgh's one is 32 and the other is 26, one is a lock and the other a flanker, and that irish rugby link is from 2004, is that date a mistake or what?

South African lock Pieter Myburgh has joined Connacht from Italian side G.R.A.N. Parma. The 6'8 second row has played for the Falcons, Natal Sharks and Blue Bulls before heading for Italy.
South African lock Pieter Myburgh has joined Connacht from Italian side G.R.A.N. Parma. The 6'8 second row was born in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa and has played for the Falcons, Natal Sharks and Blue Bulls before heading for Italy.
Myburgh is 26 and has played for South Africa at under 19, 21 and 23 level. He arrived in Galway yesterday evening after travelling from Johannesburg and after passing a medical examination signed for the province today.

He is the sixth new player to join up with the Connacht squad for pre season training along with James Downey, Niall O'Brien, David Kelly, David Slemen and David Tierney. It is hoped he will fill the void at second row after Damien Browne and Mike McCarthy left for Northampton and Newcastle respectively at the end of last season.

Connachtrugby.ie will have an exclusive interview with the new signing available on the site tomorrow.

Connacht Move to Replace McCarthy

Connacht have moved to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Irish international Mike McCarthy to Leinster by signing South African lock Pieter Myburgh. The 6'8 second row was born in Vanderbijlpark, South Africa and has played for the Falcons, Natal Sharks and Blue Bulls.

Definitely Rossie. Connacht need to start the season saying minimally they will win 8 of their 11 league home games. From there they should be able to manage 4 wins from their away fixtures and the 3 other home games. A 12-10 record in most years would find them in the top half of the table not far off from a top 4 spot depending on bonus points. The Cardiff and Edinburgh losses are unacceptable if they are looking for greater respect. Aside from Ulster there has been very little consistency from any team in the Rabo and even they have been ordinary at times so Connacht should be looking to win out the rest of their home fixtures. No better statement of intent than beating Munster on Saturday. Thanks to this weekend's derbies two Irish teams have a chance to bounce back from a poor weekend in the HEC. Let's home Connacht work hard to make sure they're one of them.

i think winning consistantly at home first has to be the priority. imo thats how you build and maintain a successful club and fanbase. away wins are phase 2 of the project.

Matt Williams is three years out of touch with Irish rugby and that article shows it.

If Strauss has done his cruciate as is suspected, he will be out for the guts of a year. That means Cronin will be first choice, so that story seems dead.

Interesting Matt Williams piece in IT;

...not sure if I agree with his views on Sportsground, maybe he hasn't been here recently, but I agree with his point on needing some consistent wins (especially away) from current crop of players if we want a better deal from the IRFU and to hold/attract better players.

He's a full English international. Won't be happening.

So was Robbie Morris.

As for Caldwell he's done brilliantly for Bath seems to have settled in and done well. I know him and McLaughlin really didn't like each other but with Anscombe that might have changed and he could back in Ulster colours soon enough. Either way he'll have plenty of suitors.

Sean Cronin is going to be staying put in Leinster according to today's Times

He was in negotiations with us to return, but Schmidt was very shrewd in giving him the nod away to Clermont last week and maybe that has swayed him
