But for the Osprey's first try Clancy can even be heard saying "here, here" to Davies to tell him he's taking the tap from the wrong place, and then he just lets them off with it. So it all evens out.

Very clear how bad the Davies non-try decision was - when tackled he is carrying the ball in his right hand against his chest so he can fend with his left, once he hits the deck he does not get back to his feet, he stretches out and places the ball over the line: most importantly he makes one and only one attempt to place the ball
Sorry Salmson, I disagree. Just watched it again, he takes one step off his right leg right after the tackle, then he stretches. Right call.

Mind you for Ospreys tap-penalty try Webb takes the penalty in a different timezone to the mark, so it looks like the Clancy lottery evened out in the end.

The fifth and sixth officials had a particularly good game.Shelflife wrote: So the officials got it bang on.

Ahhh. I thought that he had to have been held but of course it makes more sense, given that the tackler must also release.Shelflife wrote: "A tackle occurs when the ball carrier is held and is brought to ground"
Thats the definition of a tackle. Its not brought to ground and then held. When the tackle is completed the ball carrier must release the ball.
So the officials got it bang on.

Pat said he would have been furious with that if it happened to Connacht. He would blame the player. They practice, tackle, release ball, pick up again. and if a Connacht player did what Davies did, he would have no problem with disallowing the try and big issue with failing to carry out a trained procedure.

Ospreys didn't give up even after going 2 tries down. On the positive Connacht look really exciting going forward, on the negative some of the re-starts were poor.
From a spectator point, probably the most enthralling home match this season.

Borders no.2 wrote: Absolutely delighted with that win. Straight up we got away with one for Davies try. That was undoubtedly a turning point but given some of the calls that have gone against us this season I'm not going to apologise for us getting that one.
I'm not sure that it was a wrong decision. Clearly Marmion tackled Davies, held him for an instant, then let him go and he crossed over. However, as he was originally held he should have released the ball in that tackle and then picked it up again to score. As he did not release the ball, it was then judged a double movement. That was noted in his conversation with the TMO, so basically Davies just butchered it, but they were'nt robbed. Maybe I'm wrong. Any rules experts out there?

I don't want to read any rubbish in the morning about us beating a weakened Ospreys. In total we were missing 15 players to their 14 so any such statements will be purely lazy journalism. Ospreys to be fair played some superb stuff, their ability to offload and shift the point of attack is always good. We got into an open game against them which I was hoping we wouldn't do but we had the attacking flair to cause them plenty of problems ourselves. Ospreys would be guaranteed Top 6 or Top 4 a normal season but they've been playing catch up from the World Cup and that isn't easy.
To ensure they left with nothing was particularly satisfying and shows the mentality we need to bring to be at the top table. Granted we were lucky not just with the try but them butchering a try with 10 minutes to go but we withstood significant pressure.
What is really pleasing was that we took John Muldoon's absence in our stride, Ben Marshall came in and put in a good 40 before having to depart, George put in a good shift at 8 and Danny Qualter came in and delivered a good 2nd half. With all the talk of players going and injuries, it doesn't seem to matter within the Connacht group, Pat has instilled the belief in the squad that whoever goes out will do a job for us. Having that confidence in the group and the ability to back these lads is fantastic. You could name almost everyone but the play of MacGinty, Bundee, Tiernan, Healy at times is mesmerising.
After so many years where supporting Connacht was regarded as a laugh, it makes me so happy to see the pride the fans now have in this team and the close connection there is between the squad and the supporters. The crowd was superb again. Really looking forward to the Leinster game and what should be a superb atmosphere.
This season we can do something special. I'm confident we are on a good footing for the future but chances to put our name in lights won't come around too often. We can grab this opportunity.
Ending on a negative but as the games step up in importance and quality, we need to defend better on the tries we conceded tonight. Teams like Ospreys score in the blink of an eye. A lot of tries recently coming from us not gathering the restart or digging a hole for ourselves with poor decision making. It is nit-picking but the level we are at we are not being fair to the quality we have and the work we are putting in if we undo it with carelessness.

Aki was out-of-this-world tonight, McGinty and TOH not far behind.
Crowd was great too, both sides of the ground wedged half an hour before kickoff.
You're never going to believe it (times 3)... But we are top of the league!

Really good game aside from the result....which was obviously the main thing in the end
The biggest upside is that Ospreys were really quite good today. We fell off a few tackles but a lot of those were because they were taking lines at pace and offloading in a way that was very difficult to defend. Baker, Davies and Webb were brilliant.
Not a patch on Aki though who was out of this world, as was Healy. I'm actually not going to bother arguing with Leinster fans the next time he and TOH are not selected for an Ireland squad, just going to smile and nod and be delighted they play for Connacht.
Edit: only downside- Clancy was terrible, but it was for both teams and it was to be expected
