Ok, seeing as no one asked, here's an update...

Many changes have gone in and we now have a much nicer looking App pretty nifty right now. Changes had to be made to support iPhone 5 and iOS 6, but that's all done now.

I need to improve the maps section, but can get away with a smaller selection of places in the map in order to get the thing sent to Apple. Planning to resubmit at the weekend.

Any joy ummm? Or has the good old Apple walled garden fucked the people again?

Update, app was rejected

Boooo! Hissss! Oh ya pup ya! Down with that sort of thing.

Improvements are ongoing, but I'm a bit disappointed. But onwards and upwards. Will be resubmitting once the problems reported by Apple are addressed.

Ok, after nine days in the queue, the App is now in review. Will see if we get accepted.

I doubt it, to be honest, many apps fail at least once, it's kinda like the drivers license. But at least we're making progress.

Right, I've changed the App page to a more sensible message!

That which does not kill us, only makes us slap our heads and say "Doh!"

Great work ummm and anyone else involved.

Hopefully someone obliges with the Android version.

A static App with all of it's data bundled with the App is pretty much useless and requires updates to keep it relevant.

Our App will be downloading articles, map data and the calendar each time it loads. This means we can make updates as we wish and they will be immediately available to fans. (I hope to add popup notification for new additions to the App interface in 2.0). The twitter and video feeds are checked on each load up as well, so as long as there is someone tweeting or posting new videos the new stuff will be there.

The only static part of the App is the photo album.


And this is where everyone else comes in, we have a button for article submission on this website. Very few people use it. If there's an upcoming match that needs a preview, or a game that has finished that needs a review, or an event that is clan related and needs to be publicised then go ahead and write one. Don't wait for others.

If we sit back and complain nothing is being added, but we don't actually do anything about it ourselves we're a part of the problem, not the solution. Get involved, folks.

An app is a great idea, hopefully someone will deliver an android version.

But an app that is not updated is useless, I'm thinking of the Connacht app from two years ago

Ok, here's the info, the app is split into 6 sections

News: all of the news items as on the front page of the clan website. I'll be looking to add the news from the Connacht Rugby site if they let me, but that's for a future version.

Pictures: fans can take photos which will have the Clan logo added at the bottom right corner, these can be tweeted to @ConnachtClan and we'll RT them (as long as they're not rude) It's basically a mini Connacht only photo album.

Twitter: probably the least interesting thing, but it's expected by this stage. Tweets from the players and the team. Not great material, but that's because the player's tweets aren't the best entertainment

Videos: A collection of Connacht related videos from the Connacht, RTE & Pro12 youtube channels.

Calendar: An up to date calendar of all matches and clan events, including weather forecasts for matches in the future and reports for matches past. This will also note what TV channels matches are available on, kick off times etc.

Map: Maps of Galway, Parma, Dublin, Cork, Limerick & Cardiff so far. These have places marked that are recommended in some way by the host team. We list hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants. For the Galway map it's business that are in some way connected with Connacht or the Clan, e.g. Buskers, Tamarind, Carlton etc.

New maps will be added in time, we asked other teams for locations for the maps but the info is slow in coming back. But once we launch I hope to see them realise how useful it is and maybe they'll get back to us. If not, they're not going to be on the list.

To avoid people making their own conclusions on why it's not out yet I'll explain how everything works. When you write an App it has to be uploaded to the App Store, once there it is reviewed and accepted or rejected depending on lots of different criteria, from doing things it shouldn't to just plain not working.

Our App was uploaded on Sunday and is awaiting review. Once the review is complete we will be told if it has been accepted, and if not why not. If not changes will have to be made to get it ready for a second review. This could mean a delay of anything from a few days to a few weeks.

Obviously we hope the App will be accepted immediately, we'd like to get this out for fans asap, but if not then release will be delayed.

Once we've been accepted we will of course make a big fuss about all this, an announcement will be made on the forum, tweets will go out, maybe Connacht will post this on their Facebook page. It will not be a case of it appearing on an obscure link and hoping people notice it, we're not that stupid.

And I wasn't being offhand above, either. If anyone has good Android programming experience and would like to write one for that OS then please let us know.

For iPad owners, an iPad version will be available in version 2.0.
