Peter stringer has signed a one year extention with Munster so for those of us that were wishing him here the dream is over! pity.

So three big signings this year already. Do we think there will be any more?
When we compare the three we've signed to players signed in previous seasons, there is a big difference in quality

Faloon signs two-year deal with Connacht

LINLEY MacKENZIE

Tue, Mar 27, 2012

ULSTER FLANKER Willie Faloon is the latest player to sign for Connacht for next season.

The 25-year-old openside flanker has penned a two-year deal with the province, having spent three years with Ulster.

Connacht coach Eric Elwood says he is delighted to have recruited the Ballynahinch clubman, having worked with him on the Ireland A side.

“I have known Willie on the Ireland A side and was very impressed with him last year. I believe he is a player who punches above his weight. Like Johnny O’Connor, he is a player who gets around the park, and he can also carry ball.

“As an Irish eligible player, I also believe Willie will flourish in our environment.”

Faloon, who led his school Royal School Armagh to Ulster Schools Cup victory in 2004, made his professional debut for Ulster in 2009.

He will join a Connacht side that already boasts former Ulster teammates TJ Anderson, Niall O’Connor and Mark McCrea, and is expected to give a lift to an ageing backrow where both Johnny O’Connor and Ray Ofisa are nearing the end of their professional careers.

Faloon is the third new player Elwood has recruited for next season, following the signings of prop Nathan White from Leinster and former Scottish international outhalf Dan Parks.

Does new singing mean a current player with a new contract, or a new player in?

With the news of new contracts it'd be nice to also know about players definitely leaving

I'd say so, hearing rumours a new signing will be unveiled tomorrow

That does make sense but I think guys like POD and Frank need a kick up the rear every now and then and playing for your contract extension is a pretty big incentive!

I think it makes sense to stagger the contracts at any one position. You don't want to have to renegotiate with all your scrum halves at the same time, and if the opportunity to upgrade arises you will always have one coming to the end of the contract each year.

I think a 2 year contract for POD is generous I'd give him a 1 year and tell him convince me he deserves a second year. As for the Rees rumours it's a head scratcher I don't like the idea of using up a NIQ spot for a position we're already well covered in. Will be interesting to see if he comes.

Ah You, Rogers, Fa'afili, Ofisa I think are the main ones on full contracts not to resign. don't know what the score is with the injured players like Browne and Nolan, anyone know for sure?

Some good news there with the re-signings.

Tonetti is a good solid option in the centre, with McSharry and Griffin here for two years too it gives some good options.

I can see why Gannon is only 1 year due to injury problems but he's a good player, if he gets an injury free run we might be even able to give Swifty the odd rest! With David Nolan and Andrew Browne having had their injury problems too it gives us another good option in the 2nd row.

Moore has shown promise, deserves more game time next season.

Thought Paul O'Donohue was here for 2 years already, not entirely convinced by this re-signing, has had his moments and in fairness has shown plenty of effort and will do the dirty work but overall has a lot to do yet especially in terms of his passing.

Frank is signed on for another year definitely so not so sure will the Rees signing go through especially with Marmion in the academy, unless Munster agree to take Frank Murphy off our hands.

Have to laugh at Eric's comment about the competition bringing out the best in all the scrum halfs. Maybe in training but certainly not on game day.

Who else is left to re-sign?
