Avuva two years ago would have been worth a look but not any more, has regressed significantly imo, and always had fairly large flaws in his game anyways. A pity as I felt he had the potential to be a useful player. I'm surprised Leinster are letting Goodman go as they are similarly stuck at centre, perhaps his injury is a factor here and rehab has not been successful?

Just seen there that andrew goodman and leo avua are being released by leinster. With money now bound to be tight might they be options? Mckeon has struggled this season and centre is a problem still over a long season imo.

Porter is the only non-academy cover that we have for Marmion atm, we definitely need an experienced head at halfback. I wonder who it could be? Really wish we had gotten Stringer for a year.

Another scrumhalf? I think we're well enough covered there, at the moment.

I think we have a limit on number of NIQ players, but we're not bound by the same rules as the other provinces when it comes to restrictions on number and position.

From twitter

Adam Redmond ‏@AdamRedmond

@RuaidhriOC Connacht also due to sign a South African No 9 meaning they can field a team with 13 non-Irish born players next season

I'd like Roux to come to Connacht. His first season was ruined by a terrible shoulder injury and hasn't had a real look in this season under MOC. He's very young for a second row and has the skill-set to be an asset in years to come. He'll be IQ in a year and with Clarke probably playing less last season he could be a good buy for us.

he's very lazy and quite soft I agree, and I don't personally see how Connacht could knock that out of him if Leinster and schmidt couldn't.
Stander seems to have turned it around but I would say with the benefit of hindsight that there's a good chance it was a calculated move by Penney. Like many others I thought that the two did not get along but this year Stander has almost as much gametime as Coughlan, whereas last year he had only 7 appearances. That's a massive shift and my guess is that the reason is perhaps a 50/50 split between a better attitude and a lot of time spent in the gym. In addition he's shown a great work rate this year that Roux can't come close to matching at present.

Would not be keen on that at all, Tom Denton has kept him out of the team for long portions of the past season. He has not delivered on his promise or shown any massive improvement in the two years or so he's been in Ireland. Leinster has struggled with second row recruitment for ages and this was another example of a poor signing on their part imo.

From reading on the Leinster forum and seeing him play, they want to keep him ahead of Denton.

He has a good skillset, he's a big bruiser, but downsides are he's a but soft and lazy. If we could knock that out of him we might have a player because he can rumble.

I would say if it happens it's an IRFU move. He has 2 years of his project done, he's not getting a look in at Leinster so if he can break through with us it would be a bonus. Perhaps a shot to nothing maybe. Look how Stander turned things around lately.

Not sure what the story is re Clarke, but with Mils signing, perhaps it's an indication that he will be playing on

Is this a sign that clarke is gone? Pity if so. Dont know much about Roux. Havent seen much of him but schmidt thought enough of him to sign him. Regular games with connacht will bring him on.
The stats dont back up my goalkicking claim for mils. Have a memory of him kicking the long ones though.

Of course he will play and as much as his body will let him. Anyone saying anything else hasnt taken their tablets this morning. He might even play outhalf. Hes better than any of the current options and if memory serves is a goal kicker.
Great signing.
