Sure we just sang Bundee's name to the air of a 90's pop tune and it was awesome.

It's all about context.
When they have a lad singing The Fields before a game it makes me cringe.
The song has lost nearly all meaning at this stage. So many Irish teams claim it, rightly ot wrongly, it's difficult to align it with Connacht at this stage

Gotta disagree - it is most certainly a Connacht Rugby song - sure the team themselves sing it after the games they win..

I kinda get the craving for a new song to sing but honestly iv no problem with us just having the two chants (Connnnnnaaaaacht and Fields).

But if we are brainstorming ideas for songs... My vote is for My Lovely Horse

Hows about we do "Bundee ar buile"
Verses to reference his tackle on Sexton, multiple refusals to leave the field despite being very injured, and a description of a flying superman try in Thomond?

Try telling that to the Leinster team and the Connacht Team that heard it on their arrival to the Pro 12 final !

Mentioned by players and mgmt as a huge impact on everyone there.

When sung like a call to war. Any song would have that effect. Sung with venom when Leinster arrived the the volume went up again in pride for Connacht it gives me goosebumps thinking about it.

Like seriously though how great was it!

Recreating that's will always be tough! But something uptempo would be great for prematch at the sportsground

You just got there before me. Shouting the fields of athenry at the Leinster squad calmed many people in Edinburgh. There reaction said it all.
John mul said it in interview lately that his stand out moment of last season was coming of the bus in Edinburgh, while thousands of people sang the fields

Don't get me wrong the West Awake is a great song.
But i'm not talking about the lyrics, the sentiment or the meaning of the song I just think that instead of a ballad song we should have an upbeat rallying or marching song with a good tempo.

I have very fond memories of two young Munster fans, obviously unfamiliar with the song, sniggering and echoing your sentiment on the second verse:
Fan1:"What a buzz kill of a song."
Fan2:"It'll have everyone asleep before the game starts"

They couldn't figure out what was going on when everyone around them started roaring the last verse.
(It kind of echoes the game as well :cheer: :cheer: :woohoo: :woohoo: )

If it's timed right it builds up to a brilliant crescendo and winds up the crowd for maximum impact; just as the teams come out, and DropKick Murphys takes it from there.
You can't have everyone properly wound up for too long, it peters out before the team arrives.

Now, The Fields of Athenry!? That's a buzz kill.

I'm not criticising The Wests awake as I said it's a fine song. I just wish they played an up beat song preferably as Gaeilge that represents the people of Connacht. I don't really think a song about an American sailor going to Boston in search of his wooden leg represents The people of Connacht.. I could be wrong..

I always felt the two lads singing were Connacht trying to copy Munster and their choir. And I could never get into it coz of it. Also the west awake is so maudlin I just switch of. Lovely song just not a pre match song for me

Ah here!
It's a song criticising the inhabitants of the province for not killing English lads at the required level of efficiency. It can be accused of many things, but being too nice is hardly one of them.

No point having some fella out there singing The Fields of Athenry.

Oro se do bheatha bhaile is an interesting shout. I'd sing it but I find it hard to see it catching on, could be wrong though

'Óró sé do bheatha baile' has a bit of mystery about it for non Irish traveling supporters.
They won't know what we are singing, but by the marching beat and tone they'll know that we are up for a fight.
A small bit like, we don't know what the maori's are saying during the haka but it's pretty intimidating.
