He must be doing something right if he keeps finding a club to sign him.

Connacht Centurion promoted to IRFU National Referees Panel
17th February 2015

Frank Murphy, who played over 100 times for Connacht, has been promoted to the IRFU National Panel of referees after progressing quickly through the Inter Provincial Appointments System (IPAS).

Murphy retired from professional rugby at the end of last season having represented Munster, Leicester and Connacht during a 13 year professional career. Capped 8 times for Ireland A, Murphy won a Premiership title with Leicester in 2007 and featured for the Tigers in the European Cup Final that same year.

Murphy began his refereeing career almost immediately following his retirement as a player and his first game as part of the National Panel will be the Ulster Bank League Division 2b clash between Armagh and Bruff on Saturday 28th February.

Owen Doyle, IRFU Director of Referees, said, “It is very encouraging that another elite player has taken up refereeing, and Frank brings his natural game instinct and knowledge to the role. Now that he has progressed very quickly onto the National Panels, we will watch his future performances and development very closely.”

Frank Murphy said, “Refereeing was initially a way of staying involved in the game. I’m enjoying it and still just trying to find my feet but it has been an enjoyable experience to date and will take each game as it comes.”

Alain Rolland made a career out of it having hung up his boots as a player. I don't know how easy it is to become a top ref, but fair play to him for getting involved in it regardless.

James Downey is heading to Wasps on loan from Glasgow for the remainder of the season. Been only used sparingly with the Warriors hope the change will do him some good.

Rossie he may well not be good enough, but he was picked two weeks ago to play at midfield and pulled out at the last minute with an "injury" that turned out to be the red tape fiasco.

Ive been told that he really upped the ante within the squad with his professional approach and that one or two noisy lads stopped complaining and concentrated on keeping their places in the team.

Its a no lose situation, if hes good enough it will be found out soon enough, if hes not then he has brought a new level of fitness/nutrition to the squad.

Courage is knowing what lies on the other side and still opening the door.

So now we know what was stopping Gavin Duffy from making an appearance for Mayo during last years GAA season. Administrative cockups, byzantine processes and (alleged) petty interferences from other counties, all conducted behind closed doors. I thought the GAA had moved on from these kind of shambles.

Gavin Duffy ineligibility another ‘messy situation’ for Mayo county board

Ulster started quite well but Toulon getting up to speed now. Jackson scored a try but now gone off injured after missing 2 conversion which should have put some more pressure on Toulon.
