As predicted Finlay Bealham happens to be holidaying in the same spot as the Ireland squad at the minute.

Conroy was with the Eagles season before last and I thought he had a lot of positives: The obvious pace but he was brave and threw himself into tackles BUT and it was a big one was he was tiny. I mean not just short but physically he looked like a schoolboy. Whether he has or can get bigger without losing pace is the issue and explains why he isnt really considered for our Senior team

As a former sprinter 7s obviously suits him as said previously he won't take as much damage, and he's playing in front of big crowds all over the world in generally good conditions, plus the potential of a strong Olympics push. Question really comes down to how much is he going to get paid as a potential sevens star versus a potentially average to good pro14 winger (no point expecting him to be a 15s international at this point).

Haven't seen Conroy play for Buccs but he scored 18 tries in 2016/17 when they won AIL 1B.

Edit: 4 tries in 4 games (3 starts) for the Eagles that same season. Judging by the interviews in the papers today he'll be focusing on 7 for the current Olympic cycle, so this discussion may be moot.

He was 25 too. I wouldn't rule Conroy out of XV rugby for Connacht in the next 3 years. Healy/Niyi are close to 30, and TBH Reece can't make a single tackle for now.

He probably needs to focus on one or the other now. If he puts on ~12kg like Niyi did it will affect his pace, which is what sets him apart in 7s. If I was him I’d much rather try become a star in sevens than spend years bulking up to maybe play a bit of Pro14 rugby. I’m sure 7s is easier on the body as well.

Also I’m not fully convinced his skill set transfers to union at all really.

Has anybody seen him play for Buccs ? Should be a reasonable indicator of his ability to adapt to 15's

7s is very different to 15s. Only a few players can do both well (Fiji!). Jordan is perfect for 7s as an out and out finisher. I suspect Nihi, Larmour and Keith Earls could be as well. Jordan looks too light for 15s right now. But from his perspective he can be a Global Star in 7s if Ireland get on the circuit in 2020.
Better than fighting for a Pro 14 place in Connacht?

No idea, information on the academy is very thin on the ground. If it’s anything like last year we won’t know til August.

Very impressed by Conroy, however he did not out-sprint Isles, he outmanouvred him. Isles was clearly gaining on him both times but Conroy weaved and offloaded smartly. Not that there's any shame in being slightly slower than the fastest man in rugby, Conroy is insanely fast.

Twitter is on fire

Carlin isles just got dusted by jordan conroy!! #speed #7s

Isles was considered sprinting vs Bolt, so that's massive.

Bring Jordan to the wing for Connacht, along Niyi we would be unstoppable
