Only cos Munster didn't want him. Took us all of 40 minutes to work out that we didn't want him either.

If he did well here he might want to stay, whereas however well he does at Newcastle, he can't stay if he has Ireland ambitions.
In a similar vein, Munster don't want a precedent for fringe players moving an hour up the road.
Conversely, why would Connacht develop a Munster player when we have the likes of Kearney and Browne on our books?

In short, there could be any number of reasons, and I'll bet they're rooted in hard nosed practicality rather than pride.

Did anyone else see that Ian Nagle is going on loan to Newcastle Falcons? You have to ask why the f*ck we don't take players on loan? Do Munster only loan to English sides as they aren't in direct competition i.e. the same league or is it we're too proud to ask for help? I for one with Clarke out would like to see some help from any of the other three provinces coming our way.

Nothing to do with senior players or Axel. Munster rugby are happy with Penney. They are not happy with mannix and didn't want to renew him. Penney dug his heels in and so did Munster in the meantime he got a better offer. It will be interesting to see where it actually is and whether mannix goes with him. I know journalists are saying Japan but I've heard clermont.

Penny leaving is down to family reasons apparently !! Twitterland saying it was senior players and a coach wanting their own thing.

And Scott Williams is staying on at Scarlets for another two years.

Very strange how much is going on with the Welsh regions given their precarious position.

Though one way of looking at it is that the Welsh regions either go on as usual with Pro12 and ERC or if they get their way they have the AW league. Ireland could actually be viewed as being in a more precarious position. If the Welsh regions manage to pull out of the Pro12 at best Ireland will be involved in a very weak league. I wonder if any of this had an effect on Penney leaving Munster?

Flanker Josh thorn bull signs for Cardiff blues from Scarlets. Scarlets sign Ollie Barkley for rest or season. That's a strange one. I wonder is priest land about to be unveiled as 2nd welsh central contract.

Why don't Irish provinces, especially Connacht, do this more often. A season loan out west( or anywhere) can benefit player and both provinces.

I'd say most of the provinces don't do it as they don't want to give the others an advantage. Ulster/Munster/Leinster are all in the hunt for the same two trophies. Why they don't lend to Connacht is baffling.
