Hi UlsterMike....sure its great that he wants to travel with you.....I've been bringing my young lads to games this past 15 years, and thats the fun.Heading over to Newcastle next week,"style" confined to a mineral with my teenagers.....and very happy to do it.Enjoy Galway, you will all love it :)

Going to the Sportsgrounds is a bit like Mass:You stay until the players are off the pitch and never leave early!

He's my son and unfortunately he therefore has little style to cramp.

Thanks for all the advice - he loves the rugby Craic and is coming home from Spain for Christmas and as I've said his first visit to Galway.

Is this likely to be the case? Should I bring a massive carry out to share with the locals?

My wife and I have been a couple of times and had the best of times and was hoping our son would have the same experience.

If he's grown up,how about letting him off alone...ye might cramp his style ;)

Just the right amount of schnazz. It's easy to go overboard.

There will be pubs open but last year I was surprised to see a few pubs closed. Taffees was definitely closed anyway and definitely 1 or 2 others.

Having said that, I am in no way concerned about being able to get pints and have the craic.

Galway, closed on Stephen's Day??!!! I very much think not. Now, to be fair, the pubs I worked in either opened at 6 or 8 but places like Garvey's would have a travel licence and the like. It really depends on whether the staff will have to travel. BUT after the match, it'll be business as usual

A Lot of pubs don't open untill the evening time on St. Stephens day so you may need to wait untill post match for nourishment

Heaven forbid.

O'Connell's on Eyre Square or An Púcán should be good before the game. And if it's not raining after the match call over to the Bar behind the Clan Terrace to say hello to the season ticket holders.

The Dáil Bar (see logo on top of this page) is great too.

That's exactly what I was worried about. Lots of comments on tripadviser saying Galway is closed on St Stephens day.

Thanks for the reassurance.

Uh. The pubs will be open if that's what you're worried about?

One of the busiest nights of the year.
