Before the Toulouse game the Skeff were advertising they'd be showing a full replay of the match afterwards. No doubt Buskers won't want to show the Ospreys game this Saturday either - but if other pubs are doing things for the benefit of Connacht fans, that Buskers aren't interested in doing, perhaps you can point this out to them?

Indeed O'Connor's is the place to be to not see the games.

Yeah, I've approached them about repeats of the games, but Saturday night of the Hallowe'en bank holiday weekend is a bit of a no-go. They have parties every night in there.

As was mentioned previously elsewhere, it would be good if Busker's could show a repeat recording after the Cardiff game on Saturday night.

Yep that is key for what we were thinking S_P. It has the venue that let's us hold great events. Not only that, but they have supported Connacht Rugby for ages themselves, and Terry and Brian (owner and manager) are both involved in Connemara All Blacks so they are not band-wagon jumpers either.

I think the key phrase here is Events Venue, this is something that O'Connells (brilliant boozer that it is) simply cannot compete with, it lacks the indoor space to be an event venue. Ealy & late season Barbie's yep absolutely fine but when the worst of the rugby season weather kicks in and you want to do a supporters event and draw reasonable crowds and you really need an indoor venue with a decent capacity..

O'Connells will always figure in Coancht Supporters plans week to week, because it's a bloody great pub. But Buskers for Clan events makes sense...

What about poor O'Connells? Are we about to instigate a bidding war?

There are talks on-going to be honest.

We went with Buskers because of a couple of reasons.
  • They got off their arses, went out and talked to their partners (Connemara whiskey being one), and came to us with a proposal
  • They have a venue that is brilliant for watch BIG matches in with a LOT of people... ideal for all the fans who cannot make the trip or get tickets to experience a crowd atmosphere
  • They are willing to put the work in to make these event "all about the fans"

O'Connell's is not "poor" because of this.  Connacht fans and members of the Connacht Clan will continue to give their business to O'Connell's, and Busker Brownes knows this.  BB's are the official event pub of the Clan, and that does not mean we're trying to hold a knife to anyone's throat to prevent them from going somewhere else.

Busker Brownes are going to do some big, brilliant things as hosts for official Connacht Clan events, and they will see benefits as a result.

In the end, there are enough "pieces of the pie" to go around...have no fear.
