From the Ulster boards there saying its something to do with his pension in that it could hit him hard if he didn't step down. That's just a rumour of course.

From what I've heard McLaughlin himself is more interested in a less high profile position.

It's true, the Ulster branch have already acknowledged they're "reviewing" the coaching teams and not yet offered extensions.
They may have made this decision when they were getting hockeyed at home by the likes of TReviso, but boy will they look stupid if Ulster turn over Munster in the HC QF.

Story in the Indo as well. Hard to know how much truth is in it, but wouldn't surprise me at all. Hard on him especially as he had to give up his post at RBAI to take the extra year. But I'm sure if he's keen to keep coaching professional sides there's something out there for him.
