Tonight on againt the head Frankie Sheehan suggested an All Ireland Superleague with club teams in an elite competition with pro players, semi pro and acadamy players making up the squads. He didnt develop his idea any further than that other than to say that it should work in tandem with b+i cup and A interpros.
in order to do that it couldnt have any more than 10 teams imo. That would probably breakdown as 3 from dublin, 2 limerick and 1 cork, 2 from connacht(most likely buccs and wegians) and 2 from ulster. It would be a very interesting competition and i for 1 would be in favour of it.
Its clear that something is needed to bridge the gap between UBL and Pro12 and B+I just doesnt go far enough towards achieving that.

Complete Non-Starter.
Been tried before and the Clubs couldn't (and still can't) manage their finances, it's not just a case of paying players to train and pay rugby, there's back office staff, coaches, medical, transport, ground development costs too if it's to be a success and draw crowds...
Anyway in terms of team breakdown, the notion that Leinster, Munster or Ulster would agree to two Connacht Clubs while they had only three would cause a complete meltdown...

Im not sure it would be that big a loss maker. The players are getting paid already, pros mainly for training and working out in gym.The UBL attendances are as low as they could get so it can only improve them.
