that time of year again when the big russians come over and beat the  out of us!
as you can see below, connacht gave a squad update, which might mean we could finally be putting out a strong team for this fixture, which would be good, and give the russians the respect they deserve.
having it on a saturday is good, 2.30 :( clashes with second half of munster/ toulouse!
3.30 would of been way better, munster would of lost and only missing out on clermont/leicester

Squad Update ahead of Eagles game
02nd April 2014

Despite the agonising two-point loss to Scarlets last Sunday, Connacht recorded their fourth successive try bonus point and became the first side in the league this season to do so. Pat Lam’s men remain in seventh place on the table and while a top 6 finish becomes all the more difficult to attain, it is not impossible and there is still plenty to play for in the remaining four fixtures where the goal of a best ever league finish is in reach.

While attention turns to the Heineken Cup quarter finals, there is a week’s break in the PRO12 but training continues at the Sportsground in Galway as the squad prepare for the trip to Ravenhill next Friday, April 11th.

Before that, however, Connacht’s ‘A’ side, the Connacht Eagles, will welcome annual Russian visitors Enisei STM to Galway this Saturday, April 5th, for a ‘friendly’ encounter at 2:30pm.

There were no major injury concerns arising from the Connacht camp last weekend. Substitute flanker Andrew Browne left the field at Parc y Scarlets after 10 minutes with a low-grade calf strain. The Galway man is making good progress and is expected to resume training this week.

Mick Kearney was also replaced due to a small shoulder complaint but the 23-year-old, who will earn his 50th Connacht cap on his next appearance, will return to full training next week.

Academy back Dave Panter sustained an injury to his AC joint while in action for his club Galway Corinthians at the weekend. The 21-year-old is expected to be out of action for up to six weeks.

Forwards Aaron Conneely (hamstring) and Conor Kindregran (ankle) remain unavailable to play for the Eagles after picking up injuries with their respective clubs Corinthians and Buccaneers last month.

Meanwhile, winger Matt Healy (hamstring) and outhalf Craig Ronaldson (groin) continue their rehab in the hope of making a return to training in the coming weeks.

The Eagles’team to face Enisei STM will be named on Friday.

Connacht Eagles v Enisei STM
At the Sportsground, 2.30pm

It's hard to tell the exact amount of budgets and salaries no one speaks. In the Yenisei say that Krasny Yar lot of money , they fly to New Zealand on camp , invite players from there ... and in Krasny Yar said that the players of the Enisey stronger, almost all of the players have been playing for many years at the club

about salaries, Karolis Navickas said he wins twice more in Krasny Yar than with Bordeaux-Bègles.
And Vladislav Korshunov said he won more with VVA-Podmoskovye (now VVA Saracens) than London Wasps.

Krasny Yar is now the stronger russian club. They poached 2 key players from the rival Enisey for the next season (Valery Tsnobiladze, hooker 22 caps and Victor Arhip, a moldovan, Dumitru's brother - Dumitru Arhip from Ospreys). Yesturday they announced a new signing : Vasily Artemyev, 39 caps, from Northampton Saints.

The period of transfers is not ended but there is possible best line-up from Krasny Yar and Enisey the next season :

Krasny Yar
1. Grigory Tsnobiladze (10 caps)
2. Valery Tsnobiladze (22 caps)
3. Maxim Cobilas (moldovan international, his brother Vadim plays for Sale)
4. Victor Arhip (moldovan international, his brother Dumitru plays for Ospreys)
5. Karolis Navickas (lituanian intl, former Bordeaux-Bègles Top14 player)
6. Viktor Gresev (55 caps, 2011 RWC MOTM v Australia and v Italia, ex-London Wasps)
7. Andrey Garbuzov (51 caps)
8. Oleg Prepelita (moldovan international, 2013 Russian League best player award)
9. Toby Morland (NZ, ex-Munster, Chiefs, Blues, Highlanders, 41 super rugby caps)
10. John Dodd (NZ, former Southland ITM Cup player)
11. Vasily Artemyev (39 caps, he plays for Northampton Saints
12. Alexey Makovetsky (33 caps)
13. Craig Clare (NZ, played for Highlanders -5 caps- and Viadana including H Cup)
14. Andrey Otrokov (10 caps, 2013 top tries scorer)
15. Glen Horton (NZ, played 21 games for Highlanders)

Enisey-STM
1. Vladimir Botvinnikov (25 caps)
2. Stanislav Sel'skiy (1 cap)
3. Evgeny Pronenko (35 caps)
4. Pavel Butenko (17 caps)
5. Uldis Sautile (latvian intl, one of the best lock in Russian SuperLeague)
6. Vitaly Orlov (ukrainian international)
7. Andrey Temnov (29 caps)
8. Anton Rudoy (kazakh international, one of the best backrow in this league)
9. Alexey Shcherban (12 caps)
10. Ryan Bambry (NZ, former Highlanders player)
11. Julris Baranovs (latvian intl, also SH, he impressed some connachtclan member)
12. Davit Kacharava (68 caps for Georgia, including 2007 and 2011 RWC)
13. Dimitry Gerasimov (21 caps)
14. Denis Simplikevich (8 caps, 2 tries during 2011 RWC)
15. Ramil Gaisin (3 caps, all this November)

Everyone has their own truth , but by the standards of wages in both Russian League clubs are high, with Russian players as well. As for the foreign players there is a limit on foreign players in Russia ( 6 players in the application) , so not all New Zealanders to play , for example, did not play in the finals of the Campbell Johnstone and Craig Clare, in the Enisey injured key player Ryan Bumbry (№10).

W_B

Financially would Krasny be the stronger of the two clubs?

I see that they have a sprinkling of Kiwi's in their squad (Toby Morland who spent some time with Munster) who seem to have been pretty influential in the play-off games, whereas Enisey seem to mainly Russian...

That's nice, good to see the team made some time for the Irish based Russian kids too...

As a Connacht man living in the UK for 25 Years, even I still get excited when they are over here playing games (not always with the result though.. ;) )...

I follow russian super league (and Romanian and Georgian rugby) because I think there is a big potential in these clubs, in these national teams.

Enisey won over Connacht Eagles, and the next day, Krasny Yar, finalist of the last russian championship, won 24-41 v. CDUL (Portuguese champion), CDUL won v. 13-24 in Valladolid (actual leader of the spanish championship) 2 months ago and Gernika won 2 times v. Rovigo in Amlin Cup this season.
So why why ERC offered 4 italian teams in Amlin Cup? Why they don't give a chance to the russian champion? Why IRB don't etablish a knock-out game v. 6th of the 6 Nations and the winner of 6 Nations B?

:)

Aaaah right, getting myself confused...

Anyway I agree about Amlin place, there should be some sort of pre-qualification for the Amlin slots, sort of like the UEFA Intertoto Cup. Maybe make teams that finish bottom of their Amlin group in the preceding year participate by seeding them for the latter stages. Say the four teams with the most points go straight into a quarter final and the other two go into the previous round and then four semi-finalists qualify for the Amlin...

There has to be a pathway for clubs to get access..
