a question for anyone out there who understands bankruptcy (and business)law better than me. If the BLues were to file for bankruptcy and re launch under a new name(like a lot of irish businesses have done)would they automatically be out of the lease agreement with cardiff city stadium?

the lease with arms park is with cardiff rfc as far as i know.

If so maybe thats whats happening there with all players being released.

They also have 10yrs left on their lease with the arms park which costs another 80000 a year but i think the car park which comes with the lease covers that and some left over.

The ospreys and Dragons are in a similar position to the blues so things could get a lot worse for the league between now and next season.

been reading more on there forum and some are there saying this could be the end and if not, what is to come in the next few years wont be good. things are so bad i didnt even want to leave a comment there.

Cardiff Blues players and Wales internationals Ceri Sweeney and Tom James have been arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident in Cardiff city centre.

Fly-half Sweeney, 32, and winger James, 24, were among four men held on suspicion of assault after the incident in the city's Greyfriars Place on Saturday night, hours after Wales’ victory at Twickenham.

The pair had both played for the Blues in Friday’s 16-13 defeat at Munster on Friday night.

Sweeney has 35 Wales caps, while James has played 10 times for his country.

Swifty, the rent for cardiff city stadium is actually 600000 pounds not 300000 and its killing them. Its also a 20 yr lease and there is no opt out clause. The only thing in their favour is the soccer boys dont want them there tearing up the pitch.

20 Year Lease with no get out clause. Whoever was in charge of this really needs a beating with there own silly stick.

£600,000 divided by say 15 games is £40,000 per game. Not bad if you can get it.

Sounds a lot, but then it's a brand spanking new facility. And the overhead costs are split. Going back to Arms Par will mean taking the hit for pitch maintenence and gerneral upkeep and refurbishment costs which rack up pretty quickly...

That Cardiff City stadium is a bit souless. Out in a shopping center, and no charachter to it.
Rugby Stadiums dont need that sort of capacity unless the team is Munster or an International team
The Cardiff fans all seemed really excited about the game against us, when it was moved back to Cardiff Arms. Suppose being smack bang in the middle of the city helped too

Blues Facing Major Exodus Crisis
By Andrew Collins
February 28 2012
Following news of Gethin Jenkins and Casey Laulala’s departures from the region, hooker Rhys Thomas is the next player to vacate the Blues. Rumours also abound that Jamie Roberts and Leigh Halfpenny are the next to go...
The Blues financial meltdown is here. This is the beginning of the end.

Hooker Rhys Thomas SHOULD be the exact sort of player the Blues look to build their squad around next season. The former Welsh international has been a very permanent feature at the region since its inception in 2003, however he is set to leave Wales to join up with former boss Dai Young at Wasps.

With high profile departures already announced - Casey Laulala to Munster and Gethin Jenkins to Toulon – it’s expected a huge list of players will leave the capital region in a few months.

As well as the Laulala, Jenkins and now Thomas, the Blues are going to release Dan Parks (Connacht), Richie Rees (Perpignan or other French side), Ceri Sweeney (Pontypridd), Deiniol Jones (potentially The Dragons) Martyn Williams and Gavin Henson.

And worse news could yet be to come. It’s been rumoured that both Jamie Roberts and Leigh Halfpenny have been released early from their contracts and have ALREADY signed deals with French clubs. Admittedly this is a rumour that has yet to be confirmed, but comes from a source within the region.

On top of the above, it’s expected that Tao’ Felise and Maama Molitika will be retiring.

Fortunately, however, it appears that Kiwi trio Ben Blair, Xavier Rush and Paul Tito will be given new deals, while Aussie hooker Ryan Tyrell should also have his contract renewed.

In terms of coming into the region, there have been one or two unconfirmed rumours.

The first, and most likely, being Rotheram RFC’s Robin Copeland, an Irish-born flanker who has the ability to play second row.

The second, and given Rees’ impended exit seems equally likely, is the arrival of scrum half Warren Fury.

The final rumoured arrival is Ian Evans who, apparently, is being released by the Ospreys, but seems unlikely given the horrific cut in wage bill.

Let’s enjoy the quarter final against Leinster in a few weeks. It could be the last time we’re there for some time.

looks like Ryan Tyrell is gone now aswell. there abit like how we were last season.
at least we didnt have a rent bill and or fans understand that we wont win every game.

OMFG! 600k! That's 2 absolute superstars a year. I never understood the move away from Cardiff Arms... it's not like they had out grown it. They should be using it like Leinster with RDS and and Aviva.

no wonder the welsh clubs are in the sh1t. ospreys for years were going mad at throwing huge offers at players to make them the real madrid of rugby.

cardiff are paying 300,000pounds to cardiff city fc to use the ground only on match days. not for the year when they have cardiff arms park for 60,000pounds for everyday off the year. which at 11.000 it would not be sold out, or could move for big HEC games like leinster

aironi on 6.5million a year. wooo. thats crazy. more money than since.

anyone know whats the budget for treviso. heard a while ago it was huge.

just to give more background to this thred and why i brought it up ,the CHief exec/ownerof the Blues has stated recently that the regions could no longer afford and could no longer justify paying the wages of players while on international duty. He then went on to say that Gethin Jenkins had been offered a one year extension on the same terms as he currently is on.
Jenkins promptly announced that he was signing for toulon and later tweeted that he couldnt sign for blues at 40% paycut(amount blues were deducting for international windows)given that he was still playing a well as ever. Thomas claims to have the support of the three regions on this matter and the wru are standing firm as they already give 1.5m per region. Privately however wru are insisting that players signing contracts abroad have clauses inserted to ensure availability for international windows. Thats what insiders are saying anyway. If this is the case all the top players will follow suit and Gatland is keeping quiet because the international clause agreement is being adhered to.
If you add in the widely reported financial crisis that the ospreys are in and the introduction of the salary cap to try and keep other three regions solvent its not looking good for any of the regions in the medium term anyway.Any good young players they produce will leave as soon as international recognition comes their way.
Finally although the main reason for posting was that opportunity has arisen to reform Hec qualification and hence competitiveness of league i read on espn website last night that aironi are on the brink of going into administration and are locked in negotiations wit italian ru to try and stay in business. Its no suprise when it also reported that they were operating a 6.5m euro playing budget.
That was just the context of where i was coming from.
