There is no "Connacht Way". Pat brought in "processes" and "structures" which the team bought into.
Each match a different process and structure is developed and devised and they go from that.
Obviously we'd love to see a bit more of a prgmatic approach at times, but when you've fully bought into a system and process and it won you the league you're not going to do a 180 and deviate drastically from it.

The was a Connacht Way. This was a way of here are our cast offs, if you make them good how dare you keep them. They were ours first. Along with targetting games. That WAS the way, but it's different now and all the structures are in place to keep it different.

Reading the comments here I'm concerned that Connacht will slowly turn in to the West Ham of rugby, always banging on about the "Connacht Way". Alex Ferguson slated West Ham in his autobiography for the idea that they always had to have an attacking philosophy. Remind me again, how may trophies have West Ham picked up in the last 30 years?

Personally I'd rather win ugly than lose pretty. If a coach like Lancester expresses an interest in the job and looks to tweak Connacht's style to make it more pragmatic I'm all for it if it means we win more often and are more competitive in both the Pro 12 and Champions Cup.

So I'm back
As I said to the mods by MP
I'm sorry if "name-dropping" about Englishmen seemed insistant, that wasn't my intention at all.
Before, it was just a stupid last word to say I'm really not a fan of Lancaster, failed with the home RWC in England, and has not "Connacht style of coaching/play" IMO
But I really love Swift, Cannon etc, and never ever thought anything bad about them !

Glad to be here again, for such a crucial period! :)

Maybe they're saying nothing for now to preserve morale for Sunday!

Brown out at the w/e, Gibbes out this morning, Ben Ryan out of running as of lunchtime.

At this rate, by process of elimination alone, we should know the next Connacht head coach by tomorrow night.

Tony Browne only got a 1 yr contract with HIghlanders with the intention of following Joseph to Japan on the national team coaching ticket. Maybe thats the negoiate strategy, ...Tony looking at a head coach role in Ireland....

Any if Joseph does well at all with Japan he is a serious contender to replace Hansen....

Appointing a coach who'd arrive 2-4 weeks before the season starts is a disastrous idea. We of all teams should be well aware of the damage a foreshortened and poorly organised pre-season can do. Hopefully this is just agent talk as Brown negotiates with the Highlanders.

Yep agreed, we saw this season how a full pre-season program is key to a good start. If the head coach isn't available for a full pre-season then he's not a realistic candidate imo regardless of CV...

Bundee's signed up for three and a half more seasons, and the IRFU doesn't auction its stars. This isn't soccer, you know!
