As far as I know the winner is picked by the votes from all the professional players in the country and since connacht have by far the least number of professional players it will always be more difficult for our lads to win these awards.

Also the players take into account international performances too although this hasn't stopped nick Williams or nacewa from winning in the past.

The sheer number of connacht players that could have been picked probably went against one of them winning it due to splitting the vote. I mean in munster stander was the only one they would have voted for same with mcgrath at leinster and best probably had some competition in ulster but his Ireland wide popularity probably got him over the line.

Regardless of Irupa we all know who the players of the year in Ireland and probably all of Europe is don''t we

Standar had a good season to be fair, but I am not sure I see the total love in with him.

He seems a great character, strong leader, but I think he has shone in a poor team playing in a poor league.

Apart from the first 6 nations game, he was much less effective thereafter. There are better 6's playing the game in this country. Hell you could argue Muldoon had a better season than him in a way.

Having said all that, I am a fan. If you could blend his good with Heaslip's good, you would have a fine 8.

Eoin McKeon has a big season ahead of him next year. I am not sure there are many other potential 8's in Ireland with his raw explosiveness. He is talented with that initial acceleration. I hope he keeps the mouth shut and ups the intensity and consistency.
