Carty is young and he's learning his trade but he's just not able to direct operations yet. The alternative is Nikora which leaves Lam no options.
Robbie is on a central contract soon and he won't be with us much longer . Probably tried too hard today but he hasn't a player on the team who can put him into space with a decent pass
It's time for a change at captain too. Muldoon isn't a shoe in anymore and can't be guaranteed a place . His form doesn't merit it . Muldowney should be captain next season . Masterson has been a find - Cooley was top class when he came on - unfortunately Marmions form has dipped
We need a good 10 and a few big ball carrying forwards . We still have mc sharry and aki for the centres which is a good partnership
That was a game we were never going to win today . We're not good enough to play in the ECC and that's the bottom line .
Hard to disagree with any of that sadly. I said before here that Robbie could move if we didn't qualify for the C.C. and I reckon it'll happen too. No point burying our heads in the sand. We've got to face up to the reality of the situation.

We haven't done enough over the season as a whole, particularly after New Year's Day.

This unfortunately means Challenge Cup again next year but with 8th place, we will also miss out on being one of the top seeds.
With one of the 7th place teams from the Pro12, England, and France going through to the senior cup competition, the top seeds/tier for the draw will be the two remaining 7th place teams and the three 8th place teams. However it looks quite likely that even 9 points from our last 2 games wouldn't be enough for 7th.
On a separate subject, ignoring the understandably hysterical reactions to the loss - the IRFU will tear up Henshaw's contract (never done before, player and his agent says he's going nowhere, they can send him where they like in a years time, would cost them in the region of 300K); Buckley's just inked contract has a no-not-HEC-qualification get-out clause so he's off to Toulouse; Munster rugby fancy transferring our corner flags, they're much nicer than than the oul yokes in Thomond - I'm a bit uncomfortable with the shellacking Carty's getting. He did ok, a shocking 2nd half penalty miss asides. As pointed out earlier our superstars Marmion and Henshaw were responsible for the 1st and 3rd tries. Our captain was responsible for the 2nd, with an absolute shocker of a missed tackle, he saw the guy coming and set himself, there was no sidestep, he just flapped at him and waved him by. These 3 are the ones that should carry the can for defeat not Carty.
The most disappointing element of the game was that for all the improvements in skills, conditioning, tackling and breakdown (not that you'd think it today) we still make really poor mistakes under pressure, and sometimes when we're not under pressure at all. Can you coach that out of players or is it something inherent? Do we need to drop a couple of the lads mentioned above for the next game to send a message about standards? Or is it just a case that lads like Mul have been flogged to death due to a lack of squad depth?

The only positive thing I can say is that it is April this season before we completely imploded and not, as per the norm, in November. A positive , maybe?
It was at times today like watching car-crash TV..................Sad really, just sad.........
6th is over now. Good luck for 7th and 8th place now...........

This sums it up really. Was going to say the exact same thing. So frustrating. Glasgow like Ulster were efficient but didn't need to be anything more than that. Complete domination for most of the first half yet went in at 6-19. Get back on top again in 2nd half, have 20 minutes with an extra player and all the momentum and territory and we let them in for another simple try.
Carty is an easy target, he had an ok game but that miss at 13-19 was unforgivable at this level but the problems were far bigger than that. Defensively it was shambolic at times. To get caught for such a simple try, 6 points down, a man up and season on the line is very poor. Prior to that we had pinned them in the corner but we didn't get the chase up fast enough, quick lineout and they were in our half.
Fair play to Glasgow for their ruthlessness but even if we were to scramble 7th we wouldn't do any good in the play off.
Mentally I don't think we have ever got over that defeat to Cardiff. The nature of the defeat and ensuing circus really was deflating in a game we should have walked.
Hopefully we can finish with a win over Zebre and maybe a result against Ospreys depending on how much they need it or not but 6th place is dead unfortunately.

what exactly does nucifora do again?
Nothing Nucifora or anyone can do if player gets stupid offers money wise and decides he wants to go. You can be sure several options were presented to him to keep him in Ireland but the move is entirely down to the player and his agent...
Today's game was a mirror image of last week, in that we dominated in first half but kept making ridiculous mistakes and gifted our opponents free points basically putting the game outnifnreach by half time yet again..
Carty's 3/6 kicking and his inability to play flat, to bring players on to the ball rather than shovelling ball backwards to static playerss killed our attack. Never looks to play behind defence either unless he kicks the ball in the air. Has he never been taught how to grubber kick?
Henshaw, intercept.
Marmion - asleep on our scrum in own 22 allowing Pyrgos to steal.
Couple of overthrows in lineout at critical times killing momentum...
Unless we have a quality Ten coming in this summer (who can stay injury free) we're going nowhere next season. Our attack today was lateral and toothless.
Really on back of last few games, if Robbie is given an out by IRFU this summer I think we'll lose him. Our best hopemof keeping him is Leinster retaining O'Connor...
Could lose a couple more as well, would be massively surprised if Denis isn't on shopping list of some big teams and tempted....

rossie wrote: poor goal kicking, lineout errors and terrible defence undoing connacht here. They were too terrible kicks at goal by Carty and losing your own lineout deep in their 22 after such effort to win it is criminal.
and that third try sums it up. It's looking like 8th I'm afraid. barring a miracle!
Think you are absolutely right ROSSIE. One stupid fu**ing mistake after another that you would give out to U16 for making. These are supposed to be 'Professionals' paid to do a job.
