Its like some type of specially designed torture. :( Was feeling down coming out of the game, checked the score 23-20, then Zebre receive a yellow and Scarlets score a try, Zebre get a penalty and go back ahead, like a mad man refreshing the score, Priestland misses a penalty and am waiting to see full time score pop up and Priestland 80+2 26-28! They didn't get a bonus point but that was a shattering blow.

Week 18 Round Up
With the season heading in to the final straight every point is now vital as each team fights for position in the congested races for Top 4 and European Cup qualification spots.

In Week 18 Glasgow retained top spot following a 34-34 draw away to Leinster. Trailing 7-27 at the break Leinster's Top 4 hopes looked in grave danger but 27 unanswered points (including 2 tries for man of the match Isaac Boss) turned it around heading into the final stages. However, Glasgow battled back to level it late on ensuring both sides finished the game having picked up 3 points.

Ulster, Munster and Ospreys took full advantage of the draw between the other contenders for the Top 4 spots. All 3 sides picked up bonus point victories at home to Cardiff, Connacht and Zebre respectively.

Ulster remain in 2nd position following a 36-17 win at home to Cardiff Blues. Leading 18-0 at half time it looked like the home side were on course for a comfortable victory. However, Cardiff battled back and narrowed the gap to 21-17 during the 2nd half. However, Louis Ludik's 2nd try of the night sealed the victory with Paul Marshall racing over to secure the bonus point. Despite getting 5 points on the night the undoubted highlight for all Ulster supporters was the return to action of Chris Henry.

Munster produced a strong finish to see off Connacht 42-20 at Thomond Park. Leading 7-6 early in the 2nd half, a Duncan Casey try broke Connacht's resolve as Munster scored 6 tries to keep the pressure on the Top 2.

Ospreys made short work of Zebre, 2 tries from Dan Baker and 16 points from the boot of Sam Davies secured a 7 try bonus point win over the bottom of the table Italians. Zebre did secure 3 tries but were unable to secure any league points in their pursuit of Treviso.

Edinburgh took a huge step towards a Top 6 finish by becoming the first side all season in the league to win at Parc Y Scarlets. 16 points from man of the match Sam Hidalgo Clyne helped the away side leapfrog Scarlets into 7th place in the league in a 2 try to nil success.

Dragons moved back up to 9th with a bonus point win away to Treviso. Leading 20-0 early in the 2nd half Dragons looked on course for an easy victory but 2 tries from Treviso helped them narrow the gap to 3 points. However, 2 late tries from Tom Prydie in a 22 point haul secured all 5 points for the Welsh side.

Week 17 Round Up
After losing top position in Round 16, Glasgow returned to the top of the table following a 26-5 victory at home to Zebre. Two first half tries from DTH Van Der Merwe helped the home side secure a 4 try bonus point by half time and despite losing the 2nd half 5-0 to Zebre, Glasgow secured all 5 points.

Having lost top spot to Glasgow the previous evening, Munster sought to regain it by becoming the first side to win at the Liberty Stadium in the Pro 12 this season. However, after an Ospreys dominated first half, the home side led 17-0 at the break. A late Munster revival brought it back to 26-12 at full time. Munster did outscore the hosts 2 tries to 1 but 21 points from the boot of Sam Davies was the difference on the day. The result provided a welcome boost to Ospreys play off hopes as they moved back into the Top 4.

Ulster failed to take full advantage of Munster's loss as they fell to a disappointing 26-22 defeat away to Dragons. Trailing 6-5 at half time, Ulster conceded 3 2nd half tries to their hosts and needed a late Ross Adair try to salvage a losing bonus point which allowed them finish the Round in 2nd place.

Scarlets remain unbeaten at home in the Pro 12 after a 23-13 win at home to Leinster. An early try from Ben T'eo try was responded to by John Barclay to leave Leinster 10-8 ahead at the break. However, 2nd half tries from Jordan Williams and Rory Pitman secured the win for the home side. Scarlets now trail Connacht by just 3 points in the race for 6th place with a favourable run in to come. The defeat for Leinster saw them fall outside the Top 4.

Connacht's Top 6 hopes suffered a hammer blow when they controversially lost 18-17 away to Cardiff Blues. A strong start saw Connacht lead 10-0 early on. Cardiff worked their way back into the game to lead 11-10 on 64 minutes but an Aly Muldowney try converted by Craig Ronaldson looked to have secured the 4 points for the away side but following sustained late pressure and some controversial officiating, Cardiff crossed for a converted try in the final play of the match to secure a 2nd win in succession for the home side.

Edinburgh kept their hopes of European qualification on track with a 29-8 bonus point win away to Treviso. Two tries from Matt Scott and 9 points from man of the match Sam Hidalgo-Clyne moved the Scottish side within 4 points of 6th place.

Week 16 Round Up
Munster took a significant step towards a home quarter final as they recorded a bonus point victory at home to Glasgow. Glasgow had topped the table by 4 points heading into this round but two tries including one for in form Jack O'Donoghue allowed Munster build a 12-0 half time lead. Glasgow battled back strongly after the break to pull the deficit back to 2 points but a skilful try from man of the match Keith Earls helped get Munster back on track before CJ Stander sealed a perfect evening for the home side with their 4th try.

Ulster kept the pressure up at the top but failed to secure the maximum return at home to Scarlets. Having trailed 6-13 at half time it looked like Ulster may struggle to secure the win but 3 tries in quick succession after the resumption looked to have set Ulster up for a bonus point win. However, it was Scarlets who had the final say with Kristian Phillips' try helping them secure a losing bonus point which may prove crucial later in the season.

Leinster kept their Top 4 hopes alive by securing a late 9-9 draw away to Ospreys. In a poor match, Leinster lead 6-0 through the boot of Jimmy Gopperth but Sam Davies with 2 penalties and a drop goal looked to have secured a vital win for the home side. However, Gopperth's late penalty kept Leinster in the Top 4 as Ospreys' season continues to falter.

Connacht strengthened their hold on 6th place with a comprehensive 53-5 win at home to a depleted Treviso. Craig Ronaldson came in at out half to kick 18 points in a man of the match display with Matt Healy collecting 2 tries in the 7 try rout.

Edinburgh's Top 6 hopes suffered a dent as they fell to a 21-15 defeat at Cardiff. Two first half tries including one from man of the match Lloyd Williams set Cardiff to a 14-0 half time lead. Edinburgh had the better of the 2nd half but despite hauling the lead back to 4 points, a converted try from Rhys Patchell moved Cardiff clear. Edinburgh pushed hard in the final quarter and Roddy Grant got in for a try to secure a losing bonus point and despite late pressure Cardiff held on for a win that lifts them up to 9th.

Zebre got their European Cup qualification hopes back on track with a 23-17 victory at home to Dragons. Leading 13-10 at half time, the Italian side recorded their 3rd league win of the season with the aid of 13 points from the boot of Mirco Bergamasco.

Week 15 Round Up
Glasgow stretched their advantage at the Top of the Pro 12 to 4 points after a come from behind 19-16 win at home to fellow play off contenders Ospreys. 14 points from the boot of Peter Horne helped edge the home side to an important win. Leading 10-6 at half time, Glasgow trailed 13-16 late on as a try from winger Tom Grabham and the boot of Sam Davies put Ospreys on course for victory but two late penalties from Horne saw the Scots home. Having lead the league for most of the first half of the season, Ospreys have now fallen 7 points off the top of the table.

Despite finishing their match against Edinburgh with just 13 players, Ulster held on to a slender 3 point lead to record their 3rd league win in a row. Edinburgh moved into a 14-10 half time lead with centre Phil Burleigh crossing for their try. However, Ruan Pienaar was getting on top in the battle of the kickers as Tom Heathcote struggled to make the most of his opportunities and a try for Darren Cave tipped the lead back in Ulster's favour. A red card for Stuart McCloskey and a late yellow card for Franco Van der Merwe set Edinburgh up for a late smash and grab victory but Ulster held on to move into 2nd place in the table.

Munster staged a late recovery from 12 points down to snatch a draw at Parc Y Scarlets. Trailing 12-6 after a tryless first half, Munster looked in trouble after a try from Hadleigh Parkes and the boot of Steve Shingler moved Scarlets into a 25-13 lead. However, late tries from Felix Jones and JJ Hanrahan enabled Ian Keatley to secure the draw with the last kick of the game and keep Munster within touching distance of top spot.

Leinster put a poor first half showing behind them to secure a 4 try bonus point with the last play at home to bottom of the table Zebre. With the 6 nations in progress, Luke Fitzgerald put his name forward for selection by securing the man of the match award while Jimmy Gopperth's 14 point haul included a try.

Connacht got their Top 6 hopes back on track away to Dragons with only their 2nd win in their last 6 league matches. Despite building an early 17-3 lead and having an extra man for over 65 minutes due to the sending off of Dragons 2nd row Rynard Landman, Connacht struggled to put the dogged home side away. A late try following a charge down by replacement Mick Kearney finally sealed the win before Hal Amos crossed for his 2nd try of the day in the final play to secure a losing bonus point for the home side.

Treviso recorded only their 3rd league victory of the season at home to Cardiff on Friday night in a high scoring game. Treviso had the 4 try bonus point secured by half time as they lead 27-17 and despite Cardiff's best 2nd half efforts, the home side held them at bay to secure all 5 points. The result moved them 8 points clear of Zebre and within 4 points of both Dragons and Cardiff as they continue to show improvements after a poor 1st half to the season.

The first game of March sees a Cardiff side in turmoil following the news Mark Hammett is to depart as coach taking on Edinburgh. Week 14 Round Up

Week 14 of the league saw Glasgow making the most significant move of the round in the race for the play offs. The Scottish side enjoyed a comfortable 54-10 victory away at bottom of the table Zebre. Peter Horne scored 2 tries and 5 conversions in a man of the match display. In total Glasgow ran in 8 tries with Peter Murchie also claiming a brace.

Glasgow replaced Ospreys at the top as the Welsh side's recent poor away form continued. They went down 24-16 away to Edinburgh. Ospreys had put over 60 points past Edinburgh in their meeting earlier in the season but Edinburgh claimed revenge to record their 3rd league victory in succession to bring them right into the hunt for European Champions Cup rugby in 2014/15.

Munster kept up the pressure with a 33-16 win at home to Cardiff in Cork. JJ Hanrahan kicked 15 points in a man of the match display, Rhys Patchell's kicking had helped Cardiff go in level at 9-9 at the interval but 3 2nd half tries from the home side secured the 4 points which moved them above the Ospreys into 2nd.

Ulster kept their play off hopes very much alive after completing the double over Treviso with a 43-3 triumph at Ravenhill. Leading just 10-0 at the break, Ulster cut loose late on to score 5 2nd half tries. Craig Gilroy claimed two tries and the man of the match award.

However, Leinster were the major losers of the weekend, their surprise 16-14 loss at home to Dragons was a major dent in their hopes of securing a home semi-final. The loss saw them slip to 5th after Round 14.

In the race for Top 6 Scarlets wiped out Connacht's advantage over them with a facile 32-14 bonus point win at Parc Y Scarlets. Out half Steve Shingler secured the man of the match award following a disappointingly one sided game.

Week 13 Round Up

Week 13 saw Ospreys and Glasgow maintain their positions at 1 and 2 in the table with wins at home to Dragons and Scarlets respectively.

Ospreys continued their unbeaten record at the Liberty Stadium with a hard-fought 22-11 win over Welsh rivals Dragons. A first half try from Ospreys man of the match Tyler Ardron looked like it may set them on course for a comfortable win but Dragons stayed in contention with a try from Richie Rees bringing them to within 8. However, Tom Prydie was unable to convert and in the end the boot of Dan Biggar was once again enough to secure another victory for the Ospreys.

In Scotstoun on Friday night, 2nd half tries from Peter Murchie and DTH Van der Merwe helped Glasgow fight back from a 7-5 half time deficit to prevail over Scarlets by 22-7 and maintain their long unbeaten home run in the league. Scarlets poor away form this season continues. A first half try from Liam Williams gave them hope of a significant away scalp but in the end they departed Scotland with nothing to show for their efforts.

Munster and Leinster warmed up for season defining European games with bonus point victories away from home. CJ Stander was once again man of the match as Munster wrapped up a bonus point shortly after half time. The final score was 31-7 as Munster completed a full points haul from their two meetings with the Italians.

Leinster had a tougher outing away to Cardiff Blues. An early try from Noel Reid set Leinster on their way but despite a red card for Cardiff 2nd row Jarrad Hoeata, Cardiff led 13-5 at the break. However, Leinster had the wind and a man advantage in the 2nd half and when Manoa Vosawai (who had replaced the injured Sam Warburton early in the game) was sin binned, Leinster finally took advantage with 3 tries in the 2nd half securing an all important bonus point.

Ulster kept in touch with the top 4 with a win away to Benetton Treviso. Ulster looked set for a comfortable bonus point win when they ran in 3 tries in the first 25 minutes to lead 24-0, however, an unlikely revival brought Treviso within 4 late on. An unfortunate knock forward when an intercept looked on eventually ended Treviso's challenge but Ulster had to be content with a 24-20 win without a 4 try bonus. The losing bonus point enabled Treviso to stretch their lead over Zebre at the bottom to 3 points.

Edinburgh made a significant move in the race for Europe with a 16-13 win away to Connacht. Connacht led just 13-7 at half time having played with the elements and it was never likely to be enough. Sam Hidalgo-Clyne kicked 3 second half penalties as the Scots avenged Connacht's win at Murrayfield in Round 2 and moved within 5 points of 6th place having picked up 14 points in their last 4 league games in a productive Christmas and New Year.

Round 13 Results
Connacht 13-16 Edinburgh
Glasgow 22-7 Scarlets
Cardiff 13-22 Leinster
Zebre 7-31 Munster
Treviso 20-24 Ulster
Ospreys 22-11 Dragons

Edinburgh will hope to maintain their good home form this season when top of the table Ospreys visit Murrayfield. Edinburgh won the corresponding fixture 31-25 last February.

Friday 13th Febuary: Ulster v Benetton Treviso
Ulster will hope to complete the double over the Italians when they meet at Ravenhill. Ulster have won all their home games in the league so far this season and will hope to keep their Top 4 ambitions alive with their European aspirations dead and buried for this season. Agreed utterly bizarre performance. They couldn't string two passes together in the second half. If Herbst is missing next week with his hamstring then there completely boned as Bronson Ross was dire.

Ulster almost snatching defeat from the jaws of victory at Treviso with a clueless 2nd half display. Led 24-0 after about 30 minutes with 3 tries in the bag, Treviso were fingertips away from a match winning intercept right at the death. Ulster really look a mess at the moment. Toulon could easily put 40 or 50 on them next week.

11 points are well enough, if they're above us in the end, that would mean we really don't deserve qualifying spot. Edinburgh is the danger for 7th, but they've also a busy enough calendar..

22-13 bonus point win for Leinster in the end. Between cards and injuries, it was inevitable Leinster would eventually capitalise despite an average enough performance.

We're 11 points ahead of Cardiff going into the break. Looking at Cardiff's remaining fixtures they have to play away to Munster, Ulster, Glasgow and Scarlets which you would expect them to get little return from so really if they finish above us at this stage we'll have fallen well behind Scarlets and Edinburgh also so at this stage they don't look particularly relevant in the race for 6th of 7th. A couple of surprise wins might change that though.

FT 13-22, Cardiff was magnificent today, but Connacht has the compensation for yesterday. No BP, and a heartbreak in the Arm' park.
