It was reported in the Irish times some time back, albiet in a slightly unclear way, that the irb had ruled in Connachts favour.

A one liner at the bottom of an article about something else.

Sounds like a beer based anecdote, inadmissable as evidence I'm afraid  :D

I was definitely told that they are now regarded as Irish Qualified.
Who told me? Where and when? No idea.

They're playing for us so I would assume it's sorted. Otherwise they'd be taking up our NIQ quota

AFAIK the IRFU have allowed Connacht to count them as IQ because they gave the go ahead before this all blew up. If the iRB subsequently rule that they are WQ then the chance of them getting renewed contracts would become small.

They are neither welsh or Irish players until such time as they are capped by that countries first or second level senior team.

Until that time they have duel eligibility.

That means they are not deemed to be niq

Well this is the crux of the matter, and the problem is with the IRFU claiming one interpretation of "second senior" and the WRU claiming another the issue has not been resolved. We could debate it ourselves until we're blue in the face, but I want to avoid that, we won't get anywhere. Someone somewhere knows the actual answer, not just an opinion.

I want to know if a ruling was made, and if it was what was the result and where is the official report of the ruling. Everything went silent and we never heard.

I was under the impression that the issue had been swept under the carpet in that they're here, we'll count them as Irish for now, but if they turn into International class players they're off back to Wales quicker than you can sing Bread of Heaven.

An Irish solution to a Welsh problem, as it were.

I read a long time ago that this was either settled, or about to be settled. But after that it went quiet. There were no announcements, not press releases, or anything at all.

Does anyone actually know the official result? Not just the hearsay?

The IRFU were supposed to ask the iRB for a ruling, but there was nothing on the iRB site - they usually publish rulings on all aspects of laws and regulations.

The fact that it went quiet is a bit worrying. I'd like to know the answer once and for all, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

How about a twitter blitz to Rob Murphy, our intrepid reporter, the IRFU, the CB, the iRB as well as Jarvis and Loxton themselves so see if anyone knows how it all ended?
