Not meaning to be smart, be it could be that GBFM's disinterest is because nobody's listening.
The obvious solution would be to put the commentary of the full match on the web (through GBFM or iRadio) and the hosting station can dip in or out of it as needed. That way you establish pretty quick whether there is a market, and you can target advertising at said market easily too.

For what it's worth, iRadio are "an official partner". I do agree that GBFM don't exactly push themselves out in terms of timetabling and god help you if you get in the way of the death notices.
I remember an away match in Europe where they rang Rob before for a quick update. Because the game was on a knife edge and Rob didn't stop for breath, they could not get him off the line so it ended up being 10 minutes of live coverage instead of a 45 second report. Perhaps this is the way to go about it, Rebels without a Pause?

I don't know anything about iRadio, just mentioning them because I know they cover Connacht.

then we'll have 1million 1Direction fans blocking up twitter cause they cant hear the same song twice every hour. either that or the 'DJs' would be doing a piss take.
have you listened to Iradio lately, it would not work one bit.
do connacht still have that partnership/conection with Iradio?

I guess it could be just as easy to ask GBFM to have the news 15 minutes earlier once in a while. Whether they would or not is another thing, but if not there are other stations Connacht Rugby could move to, like iRadio.

A 5:15 kick off time sounds like it would work best. Do we have any power to ask Connacht about changing this?
I heard over the weekend, that the majority of games this season will take place on Saturdays at the 5 o'clock time, as it's too expensive to hold them any later. Games at 6/7/8 stop the dogs from running that night, and Connacht have to pay the GRB compensation in such instances.
Dont expect many games after Christmas to be hosted on Fridays like last season, if this is to believed

You would think at least they could stream the audio online.
They have an audio stream on the website and I can't imagine it's a huge technological challenge to have a second one.
Obviously not much good to a lot of people but better than have Rob talking into a mike and no-one listening.

Kick-off times & other gripes was created by ummm,
No, this isn't another Friday night/Saturday evening debate, more an observation on the precise timing of kick-offs for matches, regardless of what day they're on.
Saturday's game was scheduled for a 5pm kick-off. There was no TV coverage, but GBFM were covering the match.
Many radio stations have the news on the hour, every hour and so, at the scheduled kick-off time, GBFM didn't go over to Rob at the Sportsground, instead they fulfilled their news obligation. I can understand that, but why didn't the branch see this coming? They seem to have made zero effort to get themselves on TV and now seem ambivalent to radio listeners, of which I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Moving the game to 5.05 or 5.10 would have been more radio friendly and you don't even have to beg TG4 or RTE to accommodate you on this, because they obviously don't care enough to be there. Hell, move it to 5.20 and do a proper presentation where Rob and the guys can discuss the team lineups, maybe interview players who aren't lining out before kick off. Have some sort of build up.
As it is, GBFM really don't seem to care either. After the news they didn't go over to the Sportsground, they did the Death Notices, so the GBFM coverage didn't start until close on 5.20.
After half time they ran commentary from a GAA match for another 20 minutes. Meaning radio listeners got to hear 50% of the game. I really despair at presentations that are half arsed. There are only 4 full time, high level, professional rugby teams in Ireland and GBFM have one right on their doorstep, but Connacht are obviously not a priority to them. I can't imagine the GAA fans were impressed either, two commentaries interrupting each other leaves everyone short changed.
Rob does a great job and I can't imagine he's too impressed with being there for a job that his employers barely care about.
Rant over. For now.
