Sure hes only down the road !!!
If Clermont (<em>probably more when than If the way players are dropping</em>) knock Munster out of the Rabo, some fun could be had with the Munstefans lads too, especially given the inconsistent performances and especially the volte-face in playing style for the Quins game Penney's position is somewhat undermined....
They like to give it, not receive it over the dark side...
ah now sure everyone knows that deccie can come home anytime he wants! So leinster will have to entertain cooder.
Perhaps Holley is okay financially after his payoff as someone said. He obviously doesnt want to move too far from home atm given the jobs he has taken. Scarlets as a consultant and now head coach st bristol which afaik is just over the bridge.
Just think you could have the double whammy though a Cooder/Deccie 10 man / kick and chase ticket to oust that crazy radical Penney...

I didn't want him to get the job but it would have at least stopped him playing the 'poor me' card to everyone who'd listen. Sears should have known that was coming with all the touting Eddie's media buddies were doing on his behalf. Doubt they'll be as vocal when Schmidt leaves Leinster mind.
Sears had a one on one meeting with O'Sullivan, which if they didn't rate him as a candidate is frankly actually more than he was entitled to...
I'm sure we've all put in for jobs where we felt our experience and skill set exceeded the requirements of the role applied for and should guarantee and interview and never got the call. You just suck it up and move on, not cry to the meeja (his mates at the Indo) like a spoilt child...
If he was meeting him anyway why couldn't he have gotten a formal interview? It's not about entitlement but diplomacy. Like I said I'm glad he didn't get the job but an interview would have saved us from a lot of the negative press we got from not interviewing him and I would have hoped we'd be a bit more savvy than that. Still, live and learn, I've been very impressed with Sears apart from that.
Pretty sure there would have been feedback from some senior players also weighing against him as a candidate, that and his interpretation of his previous history with Connacht. And he only got the meeting presumably as a courtesy as a former Ireland coach, but if they felt he wasn't a fit based on what was already known then why waste more time interviewing him.
It just does not happen in the real world of recruitment, you'll never get a company going: decent CV but not a fit for us, but sure lets interview him anyway.
If he's not a fit, he's not a fit and you save your time for candidates that are...
And while he may get an interview of of Leinster on the basis of the sh*t storm he and his buddies tried to kick up during our recruitment process, he has absolutely no hope of a job with them either. He's pretty much untouchable for the provinces now...

Holley obviously got a settlement from Ospreys to go early and when the Connacht job was around was cash rich and probably thought there'd be a queue down his drive for his services so got a bit cocky when it became clear he wasn't in the runing...
He's First Team Coach of a team who have spent 6 out of the last ten seasons in the Championship, nuff said...

Don't see how it was a mess, we avoided two underachievers.
I don't think it was a mess I think it was portrayed as such in the news media. I'm very happy with Lam even if we've yet to see how the team will play under him he has at least brought the right attitude.
What I'm saying is Holley made the selection process into a circus after things had just quietened down over the EOS non-issue. Many non-connacht fans still mention EOS' supposed interview snub even though he got 90 minutes with Sears. If only because of the negative approach both men brought to the process I'm glad we didn't end up with either.

Don't see how it was a mess, we avoided two underachievers.
Bear in mind for Holley's Celtic League success he had pretty much half the Welsh Squad & Under 20's plus some very decent outsiders, and he was given the boot by Ospreys with two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.
He was never on my list of preferred option anyway..
And we know O'Sullivan had a the Grand Slam Squad at the peak of their powers and never delivered...
For me thats a success, not a failure...
It may take some time for Pat's ways and ideas to take root next season but I've no doubt we got the right person for the Connacht job as an outcome....
