Back in London in one piece. Thanks to the Biarritz fans for making us feel very welcome - shame we couldn't put in a performance matching the week before. Thought Yach gave a proper lesson in the wet. Was great to chat to the players after the game too - some interesting thoughts from a few, and nice to see Macca get such strong support as well. Man alive, I am tired. A special mention to three other Connacht fans I met who also live in London - they were heading straight from the airport to the Munster match in Watford. I reckon they must feel savage this morning.....

He may very well have, but he was confirmed to today coming on board for the Dragons...

When I saw the pitch tonight and the weather I knew we had little or no chance, but have to say thought they battled well. Possession was given back too easily though by poor tactical kicking, can't understand why Dan wasn't sliding grubbers in behind the huge Biarritz forwards for chasers rather than putting huge garryowens which the chasers had no chance of getting to because of the boggy pitch...

Once Balshaw looked comfortable under the first three, there should have been a shift in tactic...

You never know. A bonus point win against Zebre is possible, it is just the matter of getting a LBP in the Stoop. It will be tough, but I certainly see us being in and around the 10 point mark with 10 mins to go. We gotta improve our consistency in the mean time. We have to get a TBP against Dragons, a win with Munster and hopefully come up against another weak Leinster team.

After tomorrow the table will look like

Harlequins 19
Biarritz 9
Connacht 8
Zebre 0

Biarritz have the better of the head to head now as well which puts them ahead of us if we're level so any hopes of the challenge cup look faint now, need an unlikely Zebre win to give us a real shot at it, otherwise need a minimum of 6 points which I don't believe we are capable of getting. I know we shouldn't be too dissapointed but hard not to be.

Ugly game played in ugly conditions that probably should not have been played. Biarritz played a smart game and kept Connacht pinned back. Connacht lost 30-40 yards in every kicking exchange. We got the other side of the Dan Parks coin. Horrible in defense for their try and his kicking for the most part was not good enough. Vanikolo showed why he should never kick the ball there at the end. Of course, he wasn't alone tonight with poor kicking. Henshaw did well in the first half fielding kicks. The scrum did reasonable well especially considering the conditions. Loughney, JOC and McKeon stood out for me. Thought the game plan was ill conceived and it wasn't like they didn't know what to expect as far as playing conditions would be. Disappointing they once again could not follow up on an emotional win. Yes, playing conditions played their part, but both teams had to deal with them. Biarritz just had a better plan going in.

17-0, last gasp try for Biarritz to cap off the victory. They deserved that margin, despite two yellow cards for Biarritz we never really threatened them. The defence was gutsy for most of the game but Biarritz had our number this week. Their kicking game got them territory and they just played on our mistakes then. I'm happy with the effort the lads put in but I'm afraid we were just beaten by a team with a strong pack, a playmaker in Yachvilli and good kicking options. Our kicking game was very limited and the up and under will only have limited success, especially if you kick it too deep.

We still have a long way to go in terms of personnel and in terms of game management.

Also hope Dannie Poolmans injury is not too serious. Hopefully just taking precautions but he'll be out for a few weeks minimum anyway you'd suspect leaving us with little options in the centre once again with Griffin, Tonetti and Fa'fita all out already.

Dan unfortunately picked a bad night for his worst game for Connacht. Conditions were disgraceful though. Someone could've drowned out there. I hope Danie P isn't too badly injured. Henshaw and Marmion excellent. Also Browne.

Another yellow for Biarritz. Ref not letting them away with bully boy tactics. Really have to push on now and try and take advantage.

Yellow for Biarritz. Need to at least get some territory now and try and convert into a score.

10-0 at ht. Biarritz using sensible game management. We have no real plan B and our tactical kicking is mixed. Scrums have settled a bit but we are under the cosh. Balshaws try was well worked from a Biarritz pov but was poor from Connacht defensively, Parks shooting out with no real need. Penalty count is too high and with Traille in the team they have a boot that can punish us with yardage also.

Long way back from here. Need to get the next score and hope to hang in for a bonus point.

On the positive Henshaw has done well. I'd bring on Nathan White and George at ht. Some sensible heads needed right now.
