Could backfire, though, we might end up with the Saw Doctors entertaining the fans at half time!
Where do I sign up

Think I may have tried singing N17 on the bus home from Thomand last year. It was catching on if I remember rightly.
A song like that, we need to start off with a chorus, so people recognise it immediately, and join in

@Packie - N17 is not a bad suggestion at all. Bit reminiscient of the fields subject-wise, but upbeat and minus the Brit-bashing.
Well I didnt see much future
When I left the Christian brothers school
So i waved it goodbye with a wistful smile
And I left the girls of Tuam
Sometimes when Im reminiscing
I see the prefabs and my old friends
And I know that theyll be changed or gone
By the time I get home again.
(Chorus)
And I wish I was on the n17
Stone walls and the grass is green
And I wish I was on the n17
Stone walls and the grass is green
Travelling with just my thoughts and dreams
Well the ould fella left me to shannon
Was the last time I traveled that road
And as we turned left at claregalway
I could feel a lump in my throat
As I pictured the thousands of times
That I traveled that well worn track
And I know that things will be different
If I ever decide to go back.
(Chorus)
And I wish I was on the n17
Stone walls and the grass is green
And I wish I was on the n17
Stone walls and the grass is green
Travelling with just my thoughts and dreams
Now as I tumble down highways
Or on filthy overcrowded trains
Theres no one to talk to in transit
So I sit there and daydream in vain
Behind all those muddled up problems
Of living on a foreign soil
I can still see the twists and the turns on the road
From the square to the town of the tribes
Its a great tune

Nah, on the Distaste-O-Meter, I'd have Glitter way above the Fields.More distasteful than belting out the back catalog of a convicted child molester?
There is no way in hell I would want Connacht associated with that man, even as a joke.

We used to have Rock n Roll Part 2 as part of the pre-match tape a few years ago, another Glitter classic that requires a bit of "mental reservation" but a choon nonetheless.Excellent idea. As others have said, unless the song is really simple and/or very well known already, then it's not going to catch on. Main downside to this is the Gary Glitter connection but we'll just have to get over that if we can't come up with something better.
Personally, I find De Fields distasteful, moreso in the current economic climate. Corn rustling, failed welfare schemes, forced emmigration...not the best themes.

Is there a way to incorporate shouting "CONNACHT" into this song. Or even get onto who plays the music after we score. I think this'd be a great after a try

Perhaps we need to walk before we can run and should start off with something simple. A few years back there was the:
'Come on Connacht, Come on Connacht, Come on Connacht Come on' chant (to the tune of D'ya Wanna Be In My Gang)
Maybe this would get the ball rolling?

Personally I think that an upbeat version of "The West's Awake" would work quite well!
Unfortunately the sing is too down-beat in my opinion, and not well enough known, to allow casual fans to join in
