An exceptional athlete and human being, he represented what is best in Irish and Australian sport. Hopefully he realised the absolute admiration that was felt for him among Irish people everywhere.
His was an absolutely incredible journey and story, and his bravery in life and in death should be a shining light to all Irish/Australian kids. When you think his career evolved pre-internet but there were always stories coming back about this remarkable sportsman who would go on to win the highest individual honours Aussie Rules, the State of Victoria and Australia could bestow on lanky, skinny GAA player from Ireland. He became etched into the very fabric of Melbourne and Victorian Footy, and his legacy may never be surpassed, the fact the he is holder of the record number of consecutive AFL games is indicative of the unflinching commitment of this special athlete.
RIP Jim - Legend on and off the Footy Field, you will always be remembered by Irish fans of all sports...
