If Marmion doesn't leave Connacht, he could easily beat 300 caps. Only 23 y-o, 75 caps, and Peter Stringer is still playing at nearly 38!

I remember when it was Eric Elwood's 150th cap for Connacht, it was the friendly against Jonny Wilkinson's Newcastle back around 2004 or so. He's been a superb servant for Connacht, still the go to man to carry the ball for restarts. First name on the sheet for any key games and going the full 80 most weeks. Lads can rack up a couple of hundred games with half of them being cameos but if you judge it on minutes played he'd be well up there with anyone.

When Brett Wilkinson retired with 134 league appearances and 46 European ones the press release from Connacht said he had 183 caps. I'm fairly sure the "missing" 3 were awarded for the minor tests/tour matches against S.A., Samoa and Portugal.

In that case John's on cap 257 or 258 tonight, depending on whether he played Portugal, though I doubt the Branch are completely sure themselves. :)

Either way, as you say, it'll be tight, but it would be a hell of an achievement to make 300 games for Connacht.

The 250th cap was said to be reached against Glasgow. I don't know if any or all friendlies are taken into account.

But anyway, it will be tight IMO. 265 at the end of the season, 285 in 2017, and 15 cameos (on the bench + challenge cup + friendlies) at 35 y-o. That's possible, would make it in total 300 caps for Connacht, would be tremendous!

You may be a few caps short there: he played for Connacht against South Africa in 2007 & against Samoa in 2010 and Connacht definitely awarded caps for those games. He may also have played for us against Portugal but I'm not so sure about that one.

Our captain reaches today his 255th cap before celabrating his 33h birthday in 3 weeks!

Do you guys think he could be tri-centurion, if he stays injury-free until retirement?
