The Doggie Chaps are co-Tenants (with Connacht Rugby) of the Galway Sportsground.
It is owned and held in trust by "<strong>The Galway Agricultural & Sports Society Ltd</strong>", which fortunately as per previous threads is staffed by Rugby/Human friendly people and not Doggie people...

Their main fear is continued growth and ultimate takeover of the Sportsground by professional Rugby as they would have nowhere else to go and no money or backing to build/purchase a new facility. Their parent (Irish Greyhound Board/Bord na Gcon) is in the preverbial doggie do-do financially to the tune of €21m - www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/reta...-racetrack-1.1858678 .

I don't understand the common opposition -at least coldness- between dogs and rugby in the Sportsground. Win-win situation, add some charm and specificity. It's not like the stands were sold out every week, and even if they were, we've a 2000-3000 spectators margin, by building the 2nd tier Clan terrace before having to remove the dog track

I noticed a piece in the times about Bord na gCon's financial woes this morning. It doesn't mention the sportsground at all, and while I have nothing against the dog people, from a Connacht perspective I often think it would be great of the dog track was gone and we were free to make the ground a better rugby venue. Perhaps if their money problems aren't addressed it could be a possibility down the road?
