I didn't think it was going to happen again ! I really thought we would have learned a lesson by Saracens doing that to us.

Connacht never threw in the towel like against Saracens, we were simply outclassed, especially in the backs.

A few positives: The ball handling skills of our forwards has improved massively. Our pack overall was impressive. I think I'm right in saying that all the Ulster tries were scored by backs. Our scrum and line-out were solid and we stopped the Ulstet maul.
Our own attacking play was good. Ball handling skills were good, our linking between backs and forwards was good and the levels of skill showed was actually impressive.

The reason we were hammered in my opinion was that we were completely outclassed in the backline. Our wingers were both completely exposed. Carr was a disaster and TOH seems to have lost his pace. One example is Paul Marshall's try. Fionn turned his back and TOH was rounded very easily. Fionn had the ball kicked over his head numerous times. I'm not certain if Ulster actually specifically prepare for a team like Connacht but they seemed to target Fionn and it worked well. Fionn was great going forward last week but he is and always has been a liability defensively.
I hate criticising TOH but he now reminds me of Danny Riordan. He looked so good so young but he has lost his pace. I'd love for a young fella from Connemara to be a Connacht star but unfortunately that dream looks flaky.

Eoin Griffin and Dave McSharry weren't great either but again they were outclassed.

Overall, I think the scoreline was harsh but I really think we should think of Ulster away as one of the toughest games in Europe.

If we're happy with a 46 point beating then we truly are screwed.

There isn't a hope in hell of hanging onto our best players after that.

There isn't words to describe that defeat

I would agree that handling and linking has improved to a large degree and that Ulster are probably the best Irish team at present.

I would have thought a result against this Ulster team away would be have been very impressive so the loss is not the problem its the manner amount and the ease with which Connacht coughed up so many of those tries that does not sit well.
They were not the result of intensive Ulster play where they wore Connacht down through phases and the went to the backs but simply due to terribly poor naive schoolboy level defending by TOH, fionn carr, parks etc compounded by utterly moronic decisions for example such as swifts clear infringement straight in front of referee.

The blame for this type of amateurish defensive display has to lie with the coaches and unprofessional attitude of the players in question. I think its obvious to almost every Connacht supporter that Parks, Carr and TOH cant defend to save their lives at present so when you as a coach decide to field all three playing a team of ulsters quality and then play in such a manner as to allow ulster to exploit this obvious weakness to the fullest you have to take the blame. Connacht coaches showed no tactical awareness in this regard.

Clean out is the last thing we need. True quality like Ulster have aren't coming to Connacht. That's the reality

Christ almight frank murphy still being introduced from bench what a joke :pinch: .

No true progression still miles off the top class professionalism needed to compete with the Ulsters etc of the world, execution of small things and decision making slightly better but still consistently poor if not suicidal in some cases.
No intelligent forward leader in pack (clarke out) with a presence to rein guys in from doing stupid things etc.
The quick try by marshall off a quick line out a terrible example of the problems that still exist.

TOH or fionn carr couldnt tackle a paper bag having both in the team is defensive suicide.
Parks is also a terrible defender and is a passenger when the forwards are on the back foot nikora showed much better.

Henshaw and Marmion once again show they are a step up above the rest right now and the only players who are of the standard required at present.
Hopefully clarke who is top class will return and with Heenan, Heffernan, Masterson, and a few others showing decent signs there is a core to work with but the faciltites and coaching standards have to match that potential or else it will be wasted.

IMO a Massive clean out of players needed in summer with only true quality/potential to be brought in from outside in future, no more below par journey men ever.

Did Connacht get a single penalty tonight? Genuinely.

They did and I for one didn't have any problem with the ref who I thought had a good game. Some good individual performances but overall we were so bad in the first half we didn't give ourselves a chance.
