Maybe he's holding out for the French job: after all you can't bait your cockerels with baguettes, and Bastareud and Picamoles are your designated ball carriers right there.

He probably heard the Irish job will be available soon so he'll throw his hat in the ring for that.

That's a shame, he would have been well suited to the job what with him being able to drive to Cyprus from Moylough in 20 minutes.

will be weird for him not sending 20 cv's out a week now.

now rte has tweeted

Eddie O'Sullivan has stated that the reports linking him to the Cyprus director of rugby role are totally untrue and erroneous. #rterugby

I'm sure he'll do very well indeed.

But what will Leinster do for a coach when Saint Joe Schmidt takes the Ireland job?

Its clear no club in europe will touch eos....im sure hes thrown his hat in for any vacant role, but hes not got the character or charisma for a head role.maybe the game has moved on.

He was quite lucky to do what he did with ireland. How much was down to him? Not everything.

I say fuck him. Hes not been at the top of the game for years now and it pisses me off the media support for him.

But connacht had better come up with an outstanding choice or not only are we doomed bunt we will never hear the end of it.....

I think it was bizarre that they didn't give EO'S an interview. It's extremely odd to decide you're not going to speak to someone of his pedigree, if Connacht are going to engage in a genuine, open search for a new Coach. It would only make sense if they've got one or two very hot candidates lined up and they are only paying lip service to the interview process.

As it happens, I'm no big fan of Eddie, I thought he screwed Ireland chances in two World Cups with some really poor squad rotation decisions - and picked up three Triple Crowns in some fortuitous circumstances - but you can't fault his experience.

There was three article in the Irish Independent about EOS. Three! All saying saying that we're rude and have hurt EOS's feelings! Seriously!

Tony Ward:

Who will be at the Connacht helm when this fixture next comes around only time will tell, but, whatever your take is on Eddie O'Sullivan, the fact that such a successful and proven indigenous coach didn't even warrant an interview does little for the image of Connacht or Irish rugby.

What would it have taken to grant him the allotted time for an interview?

O'Sullivan has clearly trodden on precious toes in rugby's high places. Perhaps there is a moral there going forward, but not to interview a three-time Triple Crown winner immersed in the Connacht culture, is not just disappointing, but represents a clear two fingers from a governing body that allegedly wants to encourage home talent down the coaching road.

Former Leinster captain and 47-times capped Ireland prop Reggie Corrigan experienced something similar back in May when the then Leinster scrummaging coach applied for broadly the same position with the IRFU.

Much like O'Sullivan, he too was deemed unworthy of an interview and, to add insult to injury, was relieved of his specialist coaching position with Leinster at almost the same time.

I know professional sport is ruthless, but surely some form of acknowledgment (by way of interview) for loyalty is the least those who have served their time deserve. Either that or I'm missing something obvious here entirely.

Any one from Sean Holley, Alex King, Pat Lam, Tony Hanks, Dan McFarland or Billy Millard could well prove capable of leading Connacht into a successful future, but that is not the point.

If the governing body, and specifically the coaching arm in Lansdowne Road, cannot see the negative message to aspiring young 'home' coaches that O'Sullivan's ostracisation sends out, then we may as well abandon indigenous coaching now.

It would be quite within CEO Tom Sears' remit to fish fresh waters for his new main man, but surely granting a modicum of respect wouldn't be too much for province or Union to grant.

- Tony Ward

The Vincent Hogan one is here

and I couldn't be bothered putting up the Sean Diffuly or what ever his name is. I gotta say I now have no respect for the Indo left and am quite frankly glad that we won't have to put up with this sh*te every week which we would have if EOS was in charge. That said you know the like of lackey's like Conor George are gonna have their knives sharpened for the new boy regardless of how well they do.

Can the journos realise that THIS WAS NOT OUR DECISION TO MAKE

This is clearly an IRFU decision, Sears has no beef with Eddie and the fact that there was a meeting between Connacht and the IRFU to discuss the candidates and Eddie's name was scratched from the list suggests as much

george hook for once made a very valid point tonight on the radio. he said that they should have granted him an interview even if they never intended on giving him the job. for the sake of 30min they wud have saved themselves a lot of bad press.

it happens all the time and eddie couldnt have complained then.
