Got that from munsterfans btw as there is no mention here or on official site.

were there any exciting talents on display, what were games like etc?

I went to up to watch both games. In the junior game, thought Grammar were very lucky with a draw. Rice were all over them, even though they only equalised with about 2 minutes left. Grammar no. 8 lucks promising. Scored their try and converted it himself! Rice 10, 13 and 11 looked great too.

Seniors, Marist were the far better team on the day. So match was pretty one sided. Agree with Packie's list especially the 13. Also thought Marist 10 was exciting.

Game wasn't Fantastic Apparently (Senior) But Robert Henshaw (2nd Centre) and Saba Meunargia (tighthead) on the Marist team are talents as are Shane ?? (2nd row) and Thomas Ferrari (backrow) for Grammar

Dissapointing outcome, but not unexpected. Complete mismatch interms of experience. Jamie Hagan would have been our starting Prop this year, Auva'a, Ryan, Berquist, Thorn & Ruddock would all have got games for us if they had been in with current squad...

I agree, Brad Thorn would probably have got games for Connacht this season - [I am saying this in an agreeing rather than a sarcastic manner]

i disagree. ahead of swifty or macca? have him as 7 when ray and joc is injured. otherwise bench warmer

Barry Cregg / SPORTSFILE
Leinster 'A' stepped up their preparations ahead of the B&I Cup semi final against Munster next month with a 50-0 victory in Wednesday afternoon's friendly at Anglesea Road...

Leinster opened the scoring after 5 minutes when Brendan Macken took a Mat Berquist pass to touch down under the posts after a spell of pressure from the home side which saw – separately – first skipper Jack McGrath, Mark Flanagan and then Jamie Hagan barge forward close to the try-line.
The returning Berquist, featuring in Leinster colours for the first time in six months, added the extras to make it 7-0.

Connacht rallied and when a Leinster forward was adjudged to not having rolled away at a ruck ten minutes later, it gave out-half Jack Carty a chance to shave the deficit with a penalty outside the Leinster 22, but the kick fell wide of the upright.

A high tackle by Connacht prop Rodney Ah You in the 22nd minute led to a yellow card and Leinster tried to turn the numerical advantage in their favour. John Cooney and Berquist probed for an opening inside the westerners’ 22 before number eight Leo Auva’a, on his home ground, gathered the ball at a base of a scrum and stretched over the line on the half hour mark for the second try of the afternoon.

Berquist’s conversion doubled Leinster’s lead and with four minutes remaining of the half Auva’a crossed for his third try, this time in the corner, after a clever Andrew Boyle pass with Berquist’s difficult touchline conversion attempt falling inches wide of the posts.

Connacht almost scored their opening points on the stroke of half time when Dave Moore’s pass fell forward of the onrushing second row Conor Kindegren and the scoreline remained 19-0 to the hosts at the interval.

The second half with several Andrew Conway bursts and eventually the pressure told with Macken scoring his second try of the afternoon on 45 minutes after taking a looping Auva’a pass out on the right wing to cut in and score, which Berquist again converted, to make it 26-0.

A Berquist penalty on 53 minutes extended Leinster’s lead and the New Zealander left the field to a strong round of applause from the appreciative crowd - after an impressive all-round performance - as replacement out-half Noel Reid entered the fray.

Cooney showed an impressive turn of pace to sprint clear of the Connacht defence and his pass found Reid who released Darren Hudson who dotted down under the posts, with Reid adding the conversion, to make it 36-0 after 62 minutes.

With six minutes remaining Dominic Ryan intercepted a pass well inside his half to race clear to score, with Reid converting, to bring the score up to 43-0 for the hosts before Macken completed his hat-trick after taking a Reid pass which the replacement out-half converted, to leave the final scoreline 50-0.

You gotta think that the boys will be salivating for the game. How many times do you get to play against the likes of a Brad Thorn at that level or age? Kindegran and Kearney will get to test themselves against one of the best in the world in there position. Bring it on I say.

Strong Leinster side, they nearly all have played senior with Leinster and Thorn in as well  Some come down playing in fron of about 50 spectators tomorrow. Can't blame them, its a good run out for him away from the limelight and they have a B&I Cup semi-final up coming.

Its a reasonably decent Connacht side but against that Leinster side it'll be tough

Nice to see Loxton and Ah You back. Hope Dave hasn't lost all his fitness, not enough of the season left for him to be starting from zero if he's to be seen back in the lineup.

The young Connacht lads will surely get a thorough examination from that Leinster side.

There was something in the Rugby Paper at the weekend about next years B&I cup, meant to post it up.

Think it was just confirming though that it was going ahead in the same format (Quarter-finalists to be 6 pool winners plus 2 best runners-up) and that they were trying to get a sponsor onboard.

As for tomorrow, having Thorn starting is a bit cheeky really. Not only will he be a diferent class to our own second rows but he'll also lift all the Leinster lads as well. Will probably be a very tough day at the office for Connacht tomrorrow....

Very sad to see Hagan reduced to this.

But FFS we have to deal with Thorn? At this level?

Good to see Berquist back.
