Yeah, someone mentioned Ciaran Fitzgerald. The timing would be great as it's a Lions year and 30 years since he captained them in NZ.

"The Committee" hasn't spoken... we're not dictators anyway . This debate is wide open for contributions, and we'd love to hear them. Interesting about past contributors, and maybe a bit of catching up is required.

I realise the committee have spoken on this, and that I'm late, but one thing I would like to see is for a player to get x % of votes to get in. In baseball, or American football, then it's 70 or 75% of votes that are required for a player to be admitted. That's something which takes away the chance of contentious decisions.

I think that's a terrible idea. Sure just vote everyone in. It's not that difficult lads

I'd agree with Dion re Facebook, if we put a poll up on that then people will just click on anything and everything. We can use it (and twitter) to promote the fact that people can sign up here and vote.

I think we should set up a separate poll here for each nominee and only those that get the requisite number of vote are inducted. That would mean one vote per member per nominee. So I could choose to vote for more than one candidate, they're all treated independently.

I was at the meeting yes. I'm sorry I missed your email (on the 15th right?) I was away at the time and I probably had a quick look and thought that I would get back to you (was travelling on that day). I must have forgotten. I will reply this evening after work.
Also I think that yes this is the right place to vote. Its the guys on the forum I think of as being the Clan... the FB page is more like a shop window. We will advertise the polls though, and so anyone who wants to vote can join pretty easily. If they can't be bothered with that then maybe we shouldn't worry too much about missing their votes?

Re the HoF:
The reasons for the criteria were basically trying to do as S_P suggested and keep it something that players would strive for eventually. It should be relatively exclusive and not something you get for being a fan-favourite, a nice guy and doing your job well. It really should be for the players who went above and beyond (IMO).

I am certain that we would all want our favourites in there and there is a lot to be said for them all but surely there are other ways to honour players than 'diluting' (for lack of a better word) the HoF.

Anyways as I have said "the clan" is basically you guys, the committee is just here to try and represent you. If you have more suggestions then post them or come to our meetings. You are all very welcome.

Thanks for the extra detail Diom. I think one or two a year would be good. Connacht have been around for over a hundred years so we've a hell of a backlog to get through.

just giving few examples and what i think,

if we do give the hof to JOC then he will be there, take picture, job done.

if we are thinking about giving it to a former player from 10/20 years ago or less, if they cant show up (cant be arsed) they shouldnt get it. cant stand nothing more then awards and the person not there for it. someone said bruce farley, well if he does do well on votes but if he's still playing in france that weekend and cant make it, postpone it to next year. if he's free and still cant make it, forget about him.

if someone if dead then fair enough, put them into the hof if they deserve it
