It helps matters that none of the six teams above us on the table registered a win (granted Scarlets didn't get a chance but I wouldn't fancy them in the refixture). The table looks a lot healthier when we're 11 points off sixth, albeit with a lot of games in hand floating around.

I don't think anyone has suggested that, bar Toulouse, this season has been anything less than a disaster. But if we're going to turn it around we need to start somewhere and an ugly win against a poor Edinburgh team will at least boost confidence and give us something to build on.

Time we all need to be getting behind these players and give them some positive feels.

We beat a depleted outfit at home playing poorly. We were doing that four years ago. Yetserday's win was nothing we haven't seen before.

If we don't improve our consistency we're going to lose the likes of Marmion and Henshaw to other provinces sooner rather then later.

Where exactly are we going at this stage?I do question it at this stage.

If we take the win over Toulouse out of it how is this season an improvement on any other season?

It depends on what you standards are. If they are low then hey lets break out the champers.

But if its improvement we're after then it wasn't there.

I thought we did well in the front 5. Backrow still underpowered.

Lam needs to pick a 10 and stick with him. Mc Sharry did well but Henshaw needs to be given a postion at either 15 or 13 because he's never going to develop my arsing him around as has happened this year.

Edinburgh are terrible so lets not get carried away

Don't think anyone is getting carried away... pretty much everyone has said the same: Poor performance but great to get a win.

We've had performances this season but what we need are wins.

Decadence wrote: A very poor attacking performance, as bad as I've seen this season. Our backline could not have been much more static, deep and slow. We lost 4/5 meters with every pass, apart from when Henshaw decided enough was enough and gave flat passes or ran onto the ball at speed. Parks improved thing when he came on, Ronaldson was very poor, but was he just executing the game plan?

Still, a MUCH needed win. We have our forwards to thank for it, Buckley, Rodney, Kearney and Muldoon were all very good and the set pieces were generally excellent. We need to get a decent partner for Marmion at half back, he's trying to do everything himself at the minute.

The kicking from the tee just has me perplexed ! It costs us every game. Honestly, I do not think that they are difficult kicks either. Like everyone else I will take the win, even if it wasn't pretty. Better performances will be needed to secure points in the next few games.

poor game in which we had the bulk of possession and territory. dominated the scots but still went into the break 3-7 down. we had little go forward ball Rolandson was poor and never got the backs moving at all. His kicking from the hand was good but for goal was terrible.

despite dominating the game we created no chances worth talking about, lots of huff and puff but few line breaks and little or no running onto and attacking the line at speed.

Second half was slightly better, we got the rub of the green from the ref on a few occasions and when Parks came on he got the back line moving much better so that we at least attacked the line at speed.

Poor game, saved by the win, we looked at times in the first half like a team that met up this morning.

Hopefully we can kick on from here.

Courage is knowing what lies on the other side and still opening the door.

Two misses - the 5 points - were point blank, and the other 2 were from a decent distance and the right side for a left footed kicker and with the wind. I'd say no excuse for 8 and possibly 11 for a pro player.

Wouldn't be as enthusiastic as others but a win is a win. Gifted Edinburgh a soft try at the start by not protecting the ball and being a complete mish mash in defence but overall there was some improvements. If Ronaldson had slotted his kicks it would have been a lot more comfortable. Its a bit dissapointing not to have denied Edinburgh the bonus point considering the possession and territory we had but we didn't ever really look fluent in the backline. It goes without saying that missing 11 points at this level will usually be even costly. There was no excuse for 5 and possibly 8 of them at this level.

Edinburgh were poor but its a small step forward, can we back it up in the next two games though?

Delighted we got the win. We need a confidence booster. If you look at the table now and get a good final run in we could push Dragons for their spot.

Thats 3 from 10 for Ronaldson in last 2 games. Just not good enough. Parks looked sharp. Overall a competant performance albeit against a very poor and depleted Edinburgh team.

pollypigwash wrote: That's a much need win. It didn't sound too convincing though going by twitter. any one care to fill us in on the performance? Still though 4points

Very good performance generally, demolished them in the scrum and the lineout, but Ronaldson - who otherwise had a good game, with some super tactical kicking - had another mare from the tee. Kicked just one from 5, including a miss from the 10 metre line, one from the 22, and smashed a conversion against the post from point blank range.

We dominated position and possession from the start but a cheap turnover at the ruck and a good counterattack from Edinburgh had us 7 points down. Were all over them for the rest of the half but only landed one penalty from 4.

Second half continued much in the same vein, try came when TOH ran back a deep kick very well and Edinburgh got penalised, kicked to touch, first maul pulled down near the line, yellow card for Strauss (no. 8 one). Second lineout Swifty was pulled down in the air, another penalty and a warning for Edinburgh, third lineout they stopped the maul but pounded away a few times at the line and then Browne (or Swift, Connacht and Rabo seem to be in disagreement on this) went over near the posts.

Added a penalty from Parks with about 15 left, after a period where we were not as dominant as the rest of the match as Heffernan through a few poor lineouts. Once he started throwing short we got it together again and finished the match in their half.

TOH and Griffin were the pick of the outside backs, Buckley (man of the match) and Ah You were excellent in the scrum and in general play, Browne called our lineouts and pretty much all of their ones too. Forwards in general all played well.

Of course as usual we made heavy weather of it with the missed kicks, but a really solid performance all told.

Asides from the placekicking the only downer was Loughs getting injured (Rodney had to come back on).
