If you can get the Cardiff flight from Dublin it's not bad at all.
Newport only down the road. Problem is Dublin Airport

I think this may be a 1 nighter!!

can't day trip.
NOC to BRS with Ryanair, out Friday 7pm, back Sunday at 9:40am, 115e return
Last train at 11pm to Bristol after the game, no train on Sunday early enough to get plane, I fear
otherwise, more flights from Dublin to Bristol than Cardiff, so should be cheaper

Note : Since July, there's been a general train strike on 1 or 2 Saturdays a month. It's something to be aware of.

Getting from and to the airport
Bristol Airport to Newport
Airlink bus to Temple Meads train station and bus station
Train takes about 30 mins to Newport
Friday evening, last train to Newport gets you in around 23:40. Personally, I'd stay in Bristol and go Saturday. Bristol much more interesting town to explore
Saturday, trains every 30 mins
No need to prebook tickets, savings are minimal, and you're limited to which train you can get.
Anytime ticket is 14e single, 28e return even bought on the day.
Bus (national express) goes every 2hrs or so, from bus station, costs about 10e one way, need to book in advance, esp if there is a train strike as it'll sell out
From Newport to Bristol
The first train to Bristol from Newport on Sunday is not until after 9am, so it's too late to be useful for the early morning flights, you'd need a taxi from train station to be comfortable for the 12:00 Ryanair flight, with the 9am train,
Bus from Newport is every 2hours from 5am to 7pm, takes 30 mins to bus station, and 25 mins in taxi to airport. 5:10 and 7:10 are the options for the 9:40 flight to Knock, and 10:30n to Dublin,
I suspect taxi firms in Newport have a fixed fare to Bristol airport, about 50 mins by car.
From Cardiff to Newport
Local bus from airport to nearest train station (Rhoose Cardiff International Airport), train from there to Cardiff, change in Cardiff for Newport, 16e one way or 20e return.
Lots of trains from Cardiff to newport, with local and London trains. 2 trains an hour to Cardiff central
From Cardiff to Newport
Opposite of above, train every 30mins to to airport Sunday afternoon
