Car hire is working out about €45 per head for 2 days (Fri to Sun) plus fuel.
There is also the €1,200 deposit you have to put on your Credit Card when hiring a car in France.

And don't forget the tolls ...

The €1200 deposit can add extra stress for the driver, especially with Pinky and Misfit in the back seat necking bottles of claret and pulling bits off the inside of the car.

If flying to Carcassonne, it doesn't look like there are any trains that are much good to us.
But could be useful if there's a group of us coming from a different airport, if the game is on Fri/Sun, etc.

Is it a bus from Carcassonne to Brive & return..

I think it calls for a Poll...? ;)

Yep. Carcassonne Airport to Brive on Friday at 1715 and then Brive to Carcassonne Airport on Sunday at 0930.
Personally I think 0930 is a bit early but I'm sure these things can be worked out closer to booking.
It all comes with the usual subject to availability caveats, etc. I would guess if it's the weekend before Christmas, it would probably be more.

On the Ryanair group booking front, the quote for a group of 20 was 77% higher than just booking 20 seats online. They said the margin is not usually that much but that there is a promotional fare currently available on that route and that doesn't apply to groups, hence the difference. Doesn't make a whole pile of sense to me frankly.

OK I think if the game is on a Saturday, the Carcassonne flight is the best option for most.
If it's a Friday night game, we can still fly back from Carcassonne on Sunday but we would need a different option for getting out.

Option 1. Limoges via Stansted.
Thurs 2150 Shannon-Stansted (late flight from Dublin as well)
Fri 0735 Stansted-Limoges
Involves an overnight in Stansted, but I have stayed in the Premier Inn there a few times on the way to games and it's usually pretty cheap (£35 for a twin).
Train from Limoges is an hour (about €15). No airport bus so need a taxi to station.

Option 2. Dublin to Lyon
Flight leaves at 1130 and arrives 1435
Trains are right out so it would be car or bus hire. Either way it would be after 6 arriving in Brive as the journey is estimated at 3 hours 40, which would be cutting it fine for kick off.
Personally I would go with the Limoges option.

Exception would be if the game is Fri December 19th in which case by some miracle there is a direct flight Dublin - Bordeaux Thur-Sat so hard to argue against that.
Will take a look at the options for Sunday another day.

Still not a peep out of EPCR about an announcement about an announcement.

The Dublin to Carcassonne flights have gone up to over €100 each way for the weekend of December 19th. I wonder does someone know something.
It's not our crowd driving that I'd say! Toulouse v Ulster maybe.

You could probably predict the whole European draw by monitoring fluctuations in Ryanair prices!
I was actually checking the Dublin Nice flights so see if I could find when the Toulon Leinster game was, but there wasn't much movement. They're still not that outrageously priced actually.

Actually, now I look at it, the game it at 2 on Sunday and the flight home is at half two!
So maybe it's all just coincidence.

Transavia now fly Orly/Dublin all year round. From Orly you can fly Hop to Brive for about EUR 110 return, chance the 4.5 hour drive (I will) or take the train [Note: Paris V Munster on 22 November hence Dublin-Paris could be busy.]

Good stuff. The flight gets into Orly very late so probably would prob have to stay the night to make a connection, but it gives us another option.

have the dates for the matches, or even the weekends, been released yet?

We definitely know that we're away to Enesei Round 1

www.epcrugby.com/europeanrugbychallengec...131.php#.Ve7BVkajJko

Beyond that there is a post on another thread with a translation from a Russian site indicating Enesei visit us Round 5, and that Enesei will play their three home games first, which in tandem with the EPRC article would leave our schedule as:

1 - Enesei (a)
2 - Newcastle
3 - Brive
4 - Newcastle
5 - Enesei (h)
6 - Brive

Pinky's best *guess* as to the fixtures was:

Date Home Away
14/11/15 Enisei Connacht
14/11/15 Brive Newcastle
21/11/15 Enisei Brive
21/11/15 Connacht Newcastle
12/12/15 Enisei Newcastle
12/12/15 Conancht Brive
19/12/15 Brive Enisei
19/12/15 Newcastle Connacht
16/01/16 Connacht Enisei
16/01/16 Newcastle Brive
23/01/16 Newcastle Enisei
23/01/16 Brive Connacht

but we don't have enough to book yet.

This game is confirmed for Round 5, Jan, 14-17, but without an exact date there's not much you can book.
Hopefully it'll be Saturday and that will bring the Carcassonne flight into play.
