If we think he'll be in the 23 regularly i.e. he gets a decent amount of gametime against Wasps, we should probably sign him up pronto. In any case we have only 3 OHs so he's bound to get some gametime.
Rather him to Conor Finn as I'd expect Finn to be behind Aki, McSharry, Henshaw, Leader and O'Leary in the midfield pecking order. It would take a (terrifying) number of injuries for him to even make the bench.

That was fast! Yes, we'll be sponsoring Sean O'Brien this year, it seemed like a good way to both provide money to an academy player and take on a breakout player (who may not otherwise have gotten sponsorship), two birds with one stone so to speak.
Discussion is still open as to how to spend any donations that we'll receive this year. Also, my understanding is that not all of the players above are available, they may be waiting for the sponsor to sign on the dotted line.

so did i miss the vote on who was going to be the sponsored player this year, SOB is fine with me but it should really have gone to a vote instead of 3 or 4 people deciding it for the rest of us. Let's hope he receovers from his injury and gets back playing

Clanman, we didnt have a lot of options as most of the squad are sponsored, we also have budget constraints.
Perhaps if we looked at this earlier in the year we could put it to a vote.
Also chatted to SOB and hes back running and mad to get back into it.
Courage is knowing what lies on the other side and still opening the door.

Yeah, as Shelflife said, we didn't have a lot of options (a lot of the names listed above were not available), and when some of our shortlist candidates started to get snapped up by other sponsors we had to act quickly and sign up Sean. It's also difficult to put something like this to a vote without talking about individual player sponsorship costs, we which have told Connacht Rugby we would not disclose.
So any donations received this year will go towards making up the amount the Clan has already contributed to sponsor Sean O'Brien, Sol will have bank/paypal details up soon.
We stress that donations are completely voluntary and are in no way tied to Clan membership. In fact, we are looking into setting up a new signup mechanism in order to establish a core membership base, with a small token charge in return for a piece of Clan merchandise. This is in the very early stages of discussion, so I can't go into any more detail, but we felt that it was only right to call it out here so people don't feel aggrieved when another fund-raising initiative comes up later.

As Dec has said, we're in the process of setting up Paypay for the Clan. In the meantime, drop me an email per below and I'll get you on details for bank transfer!

Just had a look at the connacht rugby website, few first teamers still without (signed deal) sponsor. its been updated today cause faloon dint have his sponsor up yesterday and he does now. i flicked through, looking for the clan logo. then i copped i had to click on the academy boys. same thing in match programe, main squad profile well away from academy.
some good players still without sponsors. muldowney, harris wright, sean heanry and john cooney. cooney would be handy with talking about inside of leinster, and henry is a nice guy who always chats and even when injured is at every home game.
SOB usually stands not to far from me, only seen him a few times. he wasnt to interested in the game as he kept going in and out.
Also he isnt that active on twitter. Eoin mckeon tweeted a picture last night of him wearing 'Kings head' tshirt that he got.
Muldoon has been all over Front dooe facebook page giving away tickets to the match tomorrow.
Last year didnt seem we got much out of heally. i expected him to show up at the dail bar when he was injured for one of the away games and talk during half time etc. i think value for money needs to be got from SOB, find out from the branch does a sponsor get pairs of match tickets, photo opp and a signed jersey etc

It's hard to cover all the bases... if we have sponsored Henry someone would wonder why we didn't sponsor a "native" or an "up and comer". SOB seemed like a good choice and, anyway, we can't really discuss players' value-for-money in public without risking letters from lawyers.
You're dead right about getting our dues this year, and we were provided with a list of benefits for the sponsor as part of the contract. I'm not sure we we are allowed to post that list (Dec can probably answer that).
A good bit of our motivation for this as well is to raise our profile WITHIN Connacht Rugby and with the players. This year sponsorship was being handled by Gavin Duffy, so our name is now familiar with one more man who is intimately tied to the province's rugby community.

if I was given the choice between SOB and one of the 4 established players that hasn't so far got sponsorship I would'nt have picked SOB. Maybe we can get another player sponsored by the Clan, is the contribution by Paypal still open for this year?
