Hey lads,

Just wondering if any of you suffer from these, and if you know of any shops which sell shin supports?
All I can find are online shops, and some dont seem to trustworthy.
Got a couple of road races coming up, and only managed a 3k run yesterday on footpaths, before both of my legs went numb from blooming shin splints.

Thanks

You need to rest to allow the injust to recover, not try force it wearing supports..

I am no expert at all but suffered from them also.

Sea point is right, rest is the best thing for them. I have also found compression socks have been a help though. Skins do a nice pair of them. They are not the overall solution but may be of some help as I found them to be.

If they continue your running style may have to be changed, or it could just be a case of too much exercise too soon.

As I say I am no expert but found them to be useful.

I had them. Changed football boots and they went away pretty soon after. I can still remember the pain during training sessions

Again, not an expert, but the correct footwear may help ease your pain as well as taking a break!

Elvery's can put you up on a treadmill and monitor your gait and will then help you to find either the perfect runner/insole for whatever you need them for. Might be worth a gander? I'm not sure on prices or anything, but they seem to know what they're doing according to friends of mine!

Indeed worth analysing the cause as well as allowing time for recovery, I suffered badly from shin splints in my teens because between School & Clubs I was playing a huge amount of sport (Rugby, Soccer, Football, Basketball and Tennis) every week.

Easing back for a couple of weeks may be enough, give it a week and see how you go, Maybe replace a road session or two with a session in the pool as per the link I provided (doing pool walking), take ibuprofen to keep the inflammation down and ice your shins after any work. Maybe just try a few park runs which will be easier on the injury as with the softer surface there's less compression...

Really have to rest to get rid as it will get worse over time. Would also recommend good runners.
I would suggest leave off the running for a few months and build up the leg muscles.
